Reporting to the Director, Aircraft Routing and Operations Planning, the Manager, Aircraft Routing will play a key role in ensuring that the best possible fleet deployment strategy is delivered to the operation every day while balancing multiple constraints from operational, aircraft maintenance, and commercial stakeholders. He/she will provide leadership to a team of Aircraft Routing Managers and act as a primary contact for the department. This individual will also be tasked to make recommendations for process improvements as well as play a key role in their redesign and implementation.

Responsabilities:

  • Develop and lead the Aircraft Routing function to ensure optimal of aircraft utilization, support of the schedule, and minimal disruption of the maintenance and commercial plan. 
  • Manage and lead a team of Aircraft Routing Managers. 
  • Facilitate the professional development of team member and provide feedback and coaching as part of the Performance Management process.  
  • Ensure effective and consistent Employee recognition. The Manager will play a key role in fostering a strong departmental culture of entrepreneurship and accountability. 
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of new processes and technology with the goal of improving operational planning in the SOC window.  
  • Anticipate operational disruptions and collaboration with key stakeholders to determine the best mitigation strategies. 
  • Work collaboratively with SOC, and Corporate Scheduling to achieve close-in commercial opportunities while protecting operational integrity.  
  • Authorized to action flight time changes, aircraft type changes, and cancellations in conjunction with SOC and/or Commercial branch management.  
  • Chair monthly Team Meetings and ensure branch priorities and initiatives are disseminated and supported.  
  • Participate in daily operational briefings and ensure team is fully abreast of daily challenges and priorities. 
  • Provide feedback to highlight chronic OTP or schedule issues and work on improvements with the Manager, Operations Planning and/or Director. 
  • Close coordination with MTC Planning Management to identify significant risks and ensure mitigation strategies are implemented.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of previous experience in Aircraft Routing, or Operations Control in a large airline environment is required. 
  • A thorough knowledge of Air Canada’s fleet and network. 
  • A strong knowledge of key IT systems (Netline Ops, Sabre Schedule Manager, S4A), or an aptitude to learn new systems quickly. 
  • A strong knowledge of the Air Canada operation as well as grasp of the companies’ challenges and priorities. 
  • Experience in training, mentoring, and developing new employees. 
  • A demonstrated ability to lead a team and make decisions. 
  • A demonstrated ability to build consensus, negotiate solutions and solve problems. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • A keen interest in aviation and airline operations. 
  • Flexible, diplomatic, and enthusiastic. 
  • Post-secondary in areas of business, logistics, airline operations or equivalent experience. 
  • Bilingual would be considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

The incumbent will be exposed to high levels of stress and will work in a fast-paced environment.
