The incumbent will provide leadership and direction to team members, including Propulsion Engineers, preparing and updating the Engine Off-Wing Specification (EOWS), along with support to the Air Canada Line Maintenance operation and Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) networkResponsibilities:
Manage and optimize the Engine budget (approximately $100M USD).Provide business, financial and analytical leadership and support to all areas of business development including own team members.Stay current of industry best practices to drive changes or transition to new business strategies in order to minimize cost and improve efficiency of vendors.Be able to create strong rapport with internal and external customers to create and deliver a quality product and services to meet and exceed expectations.Ensure the technical, airworthiness and operational standards for Air Canada’s propulsion systems including core engines, Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) / components are established and current for each Engine & APU type.Ensure “ON and OFF-WING” maintenance programs are up to date and in place to meet expected performance levels both operationally & at the lowest operating cost while maintaining reliability and ETOP’s requirements as applicable.Ensure the teams timely review and disposition of all aircraft Technical Documentation: Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRMs), Configuration, Maintenance and Procedures (CMP), etc.Lead the development of all projects required to maintain airworthiness, improve fleet performance and lower operating costs; Mandatory AirworthinessRequirement Embodiment Plan (MAREP), Individual Engine control meeting (IEC-P) and Authorization for Commitment (AFC))Support the reporting requirements associated with Engineering Review Boards (ERBs), Reliability Working Group meetings (RWGs) Maintenance Review Boards (MRBs). Ensure team provides adequate 24/7 in support of on-wing propulsion issues to minimize operational delays and cancellations.Lead and support Vendor Management Representatives and other team members.Have accountability for and demonstrate actual performance against goals on a regular basis on behalf of the Corporation.Set clear direction and achievable objectives in line with our business direction.Ensure their own and team’s timely progression and successful completion of Approved Engineering Organization (AEO) delegation requirements, including training, evaluation, and adherence to Transport Canada standards.Lead the development, coaching, and performance growth of the propulsion engineering team, ensuring a high-performing culture centered on professional development, technical excellence, and collaboration.Guide, mentor, and monitor engineers through the delegation and progression plan, ensuring consistent advancement of competencies, certification milestones, and readiness for expanded responsibilities.Manage engine maintenance vendors to ensure optimal quality of services are rendered and in line with service agreements.Oversee and manage risk management activities related to shop activities, ensuring proactive identification, mitigation, and reporting of technical and operational risks.Develop, implement, and continuously refine the maintenance strategy for engines and APUs, ensuring alignment with reliability targets, cost optimization objectives, and fleet operational requirements.Maintain clear accountability for safety and quality standards, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, internal controls, and industry best practices across all propulsion engineering activities.
QualificationsUniversity degree in a relevant field. Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred, or equivalent qualifications acceptable to be eligible to become an Approved Engineer Organization (AEO) Delegate.10+ years of related Airline, MRO, manufacturing or equivalent experience. In-depth knowledge with engine remanufacturing processes.Hand-on experience with engines in a shop environment.Strong focus on continuous improvement and achievement of objectives while maintaining a positive and productive working relationship within and outside the work group.Ability to plan and manage time, money and other resources to achieve goals.Superior planning and organization skills.Excellent interpersonal skills.Excellent communication skills, both written and oral in English – French is an asset.Strong sense of initiative and creativity.Basic knowledge of most commonly used PC software.Familiar with a variety of the industry’s concepts, practices, and procedures.Leads and directs the work of others.Must be knowledgeable and have experience with planning and forecasting systems.Excellent analytical abilities.Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
AssetsA current or prior Transport Canada recognized delegation (DE 571/521) in the power plant specialty.Experience managing a professional team of EngineersFamiliarity with Air Canada engineering processesExperience in handling technical aspects of maintenance repairs of aero engines.Experience in handling and troubleshooting engine problems “on wing”Knowledge of Air Canada computer systems.
