Job Summary

The ACAA’s Manager, Field Maintenance will report to the Director, Field Maintenance and is responsible for managing the day-to-day, multi-operational functions of Field Maintenance activities to ensure that the airport grounds & landscaping, airport painting & markings, snow removal process, and all related equipment are operated and maintained to regulatory and ACAA standards. The incumbent will also lead in administrative and operational capacities to optimize effective operations.

Here is how the Manager, Field Maintenance will help:   

  • Plan, coordinate and oversee all maintenance operations and work performed by authority personnel, on-call contractors, and on-site maintenance contractors for all airport grounds, landscaping, airfield operations, airport surface markings, and equipment; 
  • Develop, manage, and sustain a high-performance culture that ensures understanding and compliance with ACAA and department policies;
  • Manage all field maintenance contracts and purchasing, including snow season materials, ACAA vehicles, and urgent orders for parts, materials, equipment;
  • Oversee maintenance on airfield painting and markings in accordance with FAA regulations;
  • Partner with Engineering and Construction to review and approve plans for site alterations and determine equipment needs;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including terminal and landside tenants, cargo facilities, fuel farm operator, contractors and consultants, airlines, FAA, TSA, and ACAA Departments to ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operational activities;
  • Ensure that the complaints and issues directed to the field maintenance function from tenants, passengers, airlines, vendors and other ACAA departments are being properly investigated and resolved;
  • Review and approve invoices for performance and compliance with contracts;
  • Ensure administrative and operational compliance with union contracts;
  • Track and analyze system data for trends, reporting and corrective action purposes;
  • Supervise, evaluate, coach, mentor, train, discipline and motivate the team;
  • Assist in the development of department operating budgets and, where applicable, capital projects; Monitor monthly expenses;
  • Prepare periodic reports of department work completed; and
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.

Qualifications

The following requirements list the minimum education/training/experience required to qualify for this job. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted.

Preferred requirements to apply for the role of Manager, Field Maintenance are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, engineering or business administration from an accredited college or university.  
  • 5 years related experience in maintenance supervision of a large complex. Experience supervising a multi-operational and unionized workforce preferred. 
  • Possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid driver’s license. Note: license must be maintained throughout employment.


We also expect that candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities in most cases:  

  • Ability to make accurate and sound analysis and evaluations of personnel problems.
  • Ability to communicate courteously, tactfully and effectively with union officials.
  • Travel up to 5.
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to function effectively in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of snow removal operations, building trades, and vehicle repair processes, procedures, best practices, and techniques
  • Considerable ability to exercise sound judgment and resourcefulness
  • Considerable ability to remain tactful, mature, fair and consistent
  • Knowledge of JDEdwards software for entering and managing work orders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Ability to procure and manage consultants / contractors
