What youll do

  • Partner with the Tech Ops and Integrated Operations stakeholders to implement the vision for an industry-leading analytics capability around Integrated maintenance planning and operational performance assessment and feedback loops
  • Track projects from ideation to completion, including creating project roadmaps, detailed project plans, success metrics, and financial benefits analyses
  • Lead a team of 4-6 advanced degree Operations Research Analysts and Data Scientists
  • Work cross-divisionally with other analytics groups within American to foster collaboration, awareness, and community
  • Promote technology best practices with the data lake, Azure, and Databricks 
  • Establish connections with all levels and job functions within the IOC and Tech Ops Planning organization from front-line team members to senior leadership to gain insights into opportunities, data, people, and processes
  • Participate in collaborative research efforts with academic, research, and government agencies around advanced analytics, improved decision making, and learning decision support
  • Research current practices and industry trends and keep abreast of latest advances in advanced analytics and data science techniques to solve complex airline business problems
  • Be an agent of change to help establish American Airlines as an industry leader in operational planning, performance and continuous improvement

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Operations Research, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Decision Sciences, Statistics, etc.
  • 5 years job related experience


Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Operations Research, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Decision Sciences, Statistics, etc.)
  • 2-5 years of experience leading teams in a technical/quantitative professional environment
  • Familiarity with airline operations, maintenance planning and Air Traffic Flow management concepts


Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team, oversee multiple projects, complete projects accurately and within defined timelines, and to respond to changing priorities
  • Degree in a quantitative discipline (Operations Research, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Decision Sciences, Statistics)
  • Knowledge of at least one computer programming/scripting language (e.g. Python, R, Java, C++)
  • Practical experience in building and implementing large-scale optimization models
  • Practical experience in data extraction, cleansing, analysis, and visualization
  • Practical experience working with data and developing optimization solutions and machine learning models using cloud technologies (data lake, Microsoft Azure, AzureML, Databricks)
  • Strong business acumen, statistical, analytical, and problem solving skills, and able to manage complex processes with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written, presentation, and verbal skills, with the ability to produce concise, relevant, strategically-driven documents and presentations for senior leaders
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong team player, detail oriented, and able to perform well under pressure
  • Experience with visualization design and UX
