DescriptionCorporate Safety
Our Corporate Safety team oversees United’s safety system. The team manages and sets standards for our Safety Management System and executes data-informed injury and damage prevention and mitigation programs. They also lead flight safety and conduct investigations and educate pilots on potential safety threats and more. Corporate Safety also is responsible for managing United’s Emergency Response Program and manages the framework for enterprise Business Continuity.
Job overview and responsibilities
To collaboratively lead, innovate and manage United’s Safety Management System process, expansion and execution and safety data strategy. Lead the development of programs and mitigations to reduce risk, injuries and damages by developing and implementing an operations-wide strategy that positions United Air Lines, Inc. as industry leading. Providing the structure, policies and systems that keep our people safe and ensure the integrity of our aircraft to fly damage free. Instilling an enterprise-wide safety mindset working with leadership, labor and external stakeholders, including state, Federal and international partners. Improve United’s competitiveness by reducing costs associated with injuries and revenue impacts based on damages that remove our aircraft from service.

- Design and implement a Global Safety Strategy with consensus from operational MDs and VPs including goals and performance updates
Responsibilities:
- Lead and collaborate across United to drive safety culture and continuous improvement of our safety performance
- Lead the enterprise-wide implementation and governance of the Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring operational groups align with established structures and processes
- Build and analyze safety data and trends in collaboration with operational teams to identify root causes and implement targeted strategies that reduce risks.
- Provide clear, consistent reporting and executive-level presentations on safety performance, including regular updates, deep-dive analysis, and corrective actions
- Communicate safety insights and expectations across all divisions and leadership levels to drive accountability, alignment, and proactive risk mitigation
- Design, implement, and expand the safety excellence program to continue to build upon safety culture
- Drive consistency across divisions by sharing best practices and establishing standardized approaches to build a cohesive and resilient safety culture
- Shape and influence industry safety policy and governance working with FAA, OSHA, A4A, IATA, Airport and Regulatory Authorities
- Provide divisional support ensuring a safe work environment, OSHA regulatory compliance and employee support
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s degree in related discipline or equivalent experience
- 12+ years of relevant experience.
- 5+ years in progressive leadership positions with safety experience or exposure to operational safety management
- Proven experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) implementation and oversight
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong background in regulatory compliance and budget management
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Preferred
- Master’s Degree—Safety Related or Business
- Maintenance, operational and cross divisional experience
- OSHA Credentials, Industrial Hygiene training formal SMS training
- Formal Aviation Training or equivalent airline experience
- Continuous Improvement experience
