Key Responsibilities:

The Managing Director – Engine Maintenance Management is responsible for the oversight of spare engine/APU fleets and their maintenance, which is performed by both external suppliers and our in-house maintenance facilities. This role provides leadership oversight for all functions associated with engine/APU maintenance and spare engine/APU asset management. This leader develops our supplier strategy and lead the development of a robust supplier management and supplier readiness program, to ensure best-in-class operational performance to meet short-term to long-term United’s demand. This leader is also responsible for all aspects of the operation of the in-house San Francisco Engine Overhaul and Repair facility. This individual is tasked with ensuring the highest levels of safety, operational performance and regulatory compliance while maintaining a strong focus on product and process improvement, cost control, productivity, and team building. This is a global role that requires interacting and partnering with top aviation suppliers and OEMs from across the globe.

  • Manage spare engine/APU assets at the executive level, inclusive of the creation and implementation of removal plans, shop production plans, and spare asset induction/exit plans that maximize product yield for the airline at the lowest cost while ensuring a quality product.
  • Directly manage supplier relationships at the executive level, inclusive of contract compliance, supplier operational performance, part warranties and supplier readiness strategies
  • Lead the development of supplier strategy to ensure United is selecting and working with suppliers that are capable and flexible to meet United’s growing needs.
  • Establishes engine shop policies and procedures to meet all regulatory, technical, division and customer requirements/regulations and ensures the safety of all personnel.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of strategies to develop automation, analytic, and data visualization tools to improve efficiency and dependability of the various teams.
  • Partner with procurement to help in contractual development to ensure engine and component contracts meet United’s operational and financial goals and standards.
  • This is a hybrid role that requires relocation to San Francisco or Chicago.

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelor’s degree or 15 years of equivalent experience
  • Mechanical Engineering, Power Plan Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Aviation, Technical or related discipline
  • 15 years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of Supply Chain, supplier/vendor management or related experience
  • 10 years of experience in aircraft/aerospace engineering, aircraft engine program management or aircraft maintenance
  • Strong communications (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Storytelling
  • Able to build relationships at all levels of an organization.
  • Able to present to senior leadership team.
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.

  • Masters degree
  • PMP certification, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or A&P License
  • 5+ years of engine supplier/vendor management is a plus.
