Role IntroductionLead the delivery and evolution of Cathay’s IT infrastructure by bringing together strong technical judgement, disciplined governance and effective collaboration across domains. This role sits at the intersection of strategy and operations, working closely with internal IT teams and external infrastructure support service providers to ensure platforms are resilient, secure, highly available and aligned with business demand.
Day to day, the work spans technical governance, service transition, change management and proactive maintenance across infrastructure and applications. It involves making informed decisions on component versions, patching strategies and enabling technologies, while guiding stakeholders through design trade‑offs, risks and dependencies throughout the delivery lifecycle.
The impact is tangible: stable systems, well‑managed change and infrastructure that supports Cathay’s strategic roadmap. By keeping critical technology assets performing at their best, this role helps the organisation move with confidence in a fast‑moving industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Govern the build, operation and optimisation of IT infrastructure assets to ensure efficiency, cost‑effectiveness and alignment with business needs.
- Define and maintain infrastructure engineering lifecycle artefacts, including component versioning and patch management decisions.
- Make strategic technical decisions on the use of enabling technologies to deliver innovative infrastructure solutions.
- Design and support resilient, secure and highly available infrastructure services using appropriate processes and tools.
- Track infrastructure requirements and manage technical change across the full delivery lifecycle.
- Lead and schedule business‑as‑usual infrastructure changes to achieve a high success rate with minimal disruption.
- Support the resolution of operational incidents through hands‑on analysis and root cause identification.
- Collaborate with solution architects, IT strategy teams and project managers to manage risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies.
- Manage infrastructure support service providers and vendors, overseeing performance, capacity planning, tuning, patching and proactive maintenance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the team in line with High Performing Team principles.
Requirements
- Technical degree holder with a minimum of 6 years of overall IT experience, including at least 3 years in IT infrastructure.
- Proven technical management and specialist experience in a complex IT infrastructure environment, working with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) standards.
- Demonstrated ability to develop solutions and make informed technical decisions for the team with minimal management guidance or supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical ideas to a broad range of audiences, ask probing questions and deliver internal technical presentations.
- Ability to work effectively with others as part of a technical team, sharing knowledge and resolving issues collaboratively.
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, including strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability.
- Clear focus on business and end-user needs, with the ability to set expectations and understand end-user behaviour.
- Ability and willingness to proactively accept and drive change to achieve positive outcomes.
- Professional competency in at least one technical specialisation, with a broad understanding of other current and emerging technologies.
- Knowledge of how to leverage technology to reduce operational costs and deliver business innovation, with solid hands-on technical skills in a multi‑cloud environment.
