Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate individual to join our quality assurance team as an onsite NDT Level III Supervisor in Marina, CA. As we are building and certifying an advanced composite airframe that also includes additively manufactured parts, this position is responsible for inspecting carbon composite, bonded structures, metallics and other advanced structures using ultrasonic, digital radiography, liquid penetrant or other state of art methods. This is an opportunity to participate in developing a complete system including influencing structural design, fabrication methods, and operational support of a new aircraft. Hands-on experience and a “get it done" attitude are very important for this position. This position is rewarding, as the engineer will promptly see their ideas grow from concept to creation due to the fast pace of Joby Aviation.

As the Supervisor, you will provide necessary leadership and training to the Nondestructive Inspection Team. The position will coordinate inspection tasks across sites and meet company schedule requirements for both Development and Production.

Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections to in accordance with written procedures/instruction
  • Assist in development and approve techniques
  • Collaborate, as a team member, to solve problems that enable unprecedented use of complex composite, 3D metallic and polymer printed structures
  • Guide development and implementation of additional inspection procedures and equipment
  • Manage system of data analysis, interpretation, validation, and documentation for composite parts and assemblies
  • Work with the design engineering, testing, and QA teams to create robust inspection processes that have the right level of resolution for the application, acceptable process throughput, and can be accomplished consistently by the QA department in serial production
  • Facilitate good communications between Manufacturing, Engineering, and other departments as necessary to establish expectations and problem resolutions
  • Monitor performance and provide feedback
  • Support company policies and procedures and administer requirements fairly and consistently
  • Assist in sourcing inspection equipment and work with suppliers to build inspection capability needed to support aggressive production rates
  • Implement business processes to integrate QA data with the PLM/MES systems to capture inspection results and test reports against design data
  • Supervise Nondestructive Inspection Team Members and will be responsible for the overall operations of these areas
  • Lead improvement activities for quality, delivery, cost and safety objectives and will support continuous improvement through Kaizen and 5S
  • Review and/or prepare standardized work procedures and facilitate effective communication of procedures to affected areas
  • Develop training documents and facilitate training; assist in troubleshooting quality issues
Required
  • Must be able to manage manpower, including time clock management of hourly employees and ability to control overtime
  • 8+ years of technical experience and 2+ years of leadership experience
  • Must be able to successfully lead and function within a team environment and be able to adapt to change
  • Must be willing to travel between Joby facilities as required
  • Maintain safety and address concerns immediately
  • Must ensure that all safety procedures and practices are implemented and followed
  • Must have supervisory knowledge in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the aviation industry or have proven ability to lead people
  • Must display leadership ability, able to influence others to perform their jobs effectively and to be responsible for making decisions
Desired
  • General understanding and interpretation of blueprints is required (including tolerance requirements, key and critical characteristics)
  • General understanding of quality assurance system
  • Solid problem solving skills using a variety of root cause tools

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay, bonus, and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $82,600 - $152,300/yr. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
