Core Responsibilities:

  • Leads the Operational Excellence pillar of the Barnes Enterprise System (BES) including coaching, deployment and maturity.
  • Develops bench strength, stability and resilience of the Operations Management leadership at the Cell Leader and Line Leader levels to deliver consistent, predictable Operational results through focus on People, Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery.
  • Drives HSE performance of the value streams through personal belief of HSE as the number one priority, proactive engagement and empowerment leading to HSE culture improvement.
  • Responsible for the achievement of Operational results through effective flow down / cascade of Operational metrics (Lost Time Injury, Total Recordable Injury, Build Plan achievement, launch cadence, completion cadence, WIP optimization, expense control, attendance, productivity, earned hours, overtime, Total Productive Maintenance and Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and holding staff accountable.
  • Owns the tactical, big picture, forward looking Operations Management focus of headcount planning, skillset determination, hiring, learning curve acceleration, people development/skills upgrading, business continuity including mitigating single points of failure / critical skillsets, Operational flexibility and resilience, and succession planning.
  • Improves engagement of shop employees through personal involvement and coaching Cell Leaders on effective and tactful communication, performance management, reward & recognition, grievance handling, team leadership and addressing issues to timely, sound and complete resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of Operations Management experience responsible for a sizeable team of diverse demographic in a fast-paced shop environment of moderate complexity.
  • Effective leadership characterized by results focus, strong planning and execution abilities, drive, can-do outlook, managerial courage, resilience and a hands-on leadership style.
  • Business acumen in understanding strong Operational performance as the bedrock of customer satisfaction, financial performance and business growth.
  • Demonstrated understanding of lean manufacturing through practical, real-world applications.
  • Demonstrated achievement of Operational results in growth as well as adversity business cycles.
  • Effective communication (including executive reporting/interaction at senior levels), stakeholder management and decision quality.

Education Requirements:
  • Degree in Engineering, Business Management or a relevant discipline. Diploma in a relevant discipline with demonstrated career progression in an Operations Management or Business Leadership role will be equally considered.
  • Lean and/or Theory of Constraints practitioner with recognized certification advantageous but not mandatory.
