Part 135 Utility Helicopter Chief Pilot/Director of Operations
Location: Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
Lohman Helicopter LLC, a dynamic utility helicopter company based in beautiful North Idaho, is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to serve as Chief Pilot and/or Director of Operations (FAR 119). This leadership role is responsible for all aspects of flight operations conducted under Part 91/133/135/137, ensuring strict compliance with FAA regulations, company policies, and high safety standards. The position requires a strong background in utility and powerline flying, fire suppression, external load operations, and experience with BHT 407/212 aircraft. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 of the last 6 years in Part 135 operations and/or prior experience as a Chief Pilot or DO and must have firefighting and utility experience – substantial long line experience is required.
Key responsibilities include maintaining and updating the GOM, Ops Specs, and other critical documents; managing crew qualifications, pilot schedules, and operational readiness; and serving as the FAA liaison. The position also includes hands-on involvement in flying, training, compliance oversight, SMS participation, and collaboration with maintenance and safety departments. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills are essential. A current FAA commercial pilot certificate (helicopter), Class 1 or 2 medical, and extensive experience in external load and utility missions are required.
Qualified candidates must either reside in or be willing to relocate within Coeur d’Alene/Hayden, Idaho, or Spokane Valley area. This is a salaried W-2 position offering $135,000–$170,000 DOE, with additional flight hour pay, per diem, employer-paid health and dental benefits, life insurance, retirement plan, relocation assistance, and company-covered travel and lodging.
