BDA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality and Aviation (Product and Services) Safety Management System Specialist based in the Toowoomba region, to support our Helicopter Aircrew Training System (HATS) program. This program delivers a modern helicopter supporting Army aircrew transitioning to future combat helicopters.
This role forms part of the HATS Governance team and provides an exciting opportunity to support tactical and strategic Quality and SMS imperatives as they relate to the program and the broader BDA. In this role you will be required to foster and enable a safety first and continuous improvement culture supporting delivery of services to the Australian Defence Force.
Key responsibilities of this role shall include, but not be limited to supporting the Program Governance Team with:
- Coordinating and collaborating with Program and Functional leadership to ensure the ongoing effectiveness and efficiency of the Quality Management System
- Promoting a culture focused on safety and quality first throughout the program.
- Supporting the development and conduct of internal audits with the dual purpose of assessing system compliance to applicable regulations, standards and contract requirements as well as identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinating and collaborating with Program and Functional leadership to ensure the ongoing effectiveness and efficiency of the Quality and Safety Management System
- Analyse safety occurrences and report significant risks to Program Leadership.
- Liaise with the customer and other external stakeholders on quality and safety matters.
- Co-ordination of Aviation related safety reporting, including internal and within the customer system.
- Lead and/or coordinate investigations and associated root cause analysis activities in order to identify corrective and preventative actions and assure first time quality imperatives can continue to be met.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team to deliver a quality and safety capability that provides site-based support including, mentoring and coaching staff in the applicable standards.
- Working with key regulatory duty holders Governance Lead, Delegate of the CAM (Continuing Airworthiness Manager), Part 145 Responsible Manager, Quality Manager and Platform Chief Engineer to ensure ongoing compliance requirements with Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR).
- Perform delegated Part 145, Part M Quality Manager duties as required to support program operations.
- Develop, implement and maintain, plans, processes and program applicable instructions.
- Track, monitor, measure and report the health and performance of the local safety and quality management system and, support as necessary, remediation response to any lagging and negative leading indicators
To be successful you will have:
- A minimum of technical and/or further education qualifications in either Quality Management, Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the ISO 9001 and AS 9110 standards
- An understanding and ability to conduct audits to required aviation standards
- Strong problem solving ability, self-motivation and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Australian Citizenship to meet Defence security requirements
Desirable:
- Qualification in Aviation Maintenance related discipline
- Diploma of Quality Auditing
- Holds or has held a CASA or DASR Part 66 Licence or equivalent
- Familiarity with DASR and/or civilian Part 145, Part M, 21J, Part 66 and SMS regulations
- Cert IV Training and Assessment
- Defence Flight Safety Bureau (DFSB/DDAAFS) Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) qualifications
- ICAM Lead Investigator qualifications (Highly Desirable)
- Familiarity with Bow Tie Analysis Methodology
