About the position

The Senior Manager, Application Development & Support is a highly motivated, enthusiastic solutions-driver responsible for leading and managing teams of IT professionals, overseeing applications and development projects as well as supporting those applications when deployed to ensure business needs are met and the use of the application is seamless.

The Senior Manager, Application Development & Support will play a pivotal role in supporting, implementing and building business applications that meet the needs of each department within Canadian North.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages a team of application development professionals including developers, analysts and administrators.
  • Fosters an engaged workforce by promoting company values of respect, diversity, excellence, and service.
  • Provides overall application development and support across all functional areas including Finance, HR, Flight Operations, Maintenance, Airports and Cargo, Planning and Sales and Marketing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and document business requirements, build business cases and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Manages the entire application development lifecycle, from planning and design to implementation and maintenance.
  • Ensure applications are developed and deployed according to the industry’s best practices and quality standards.
  • Implements and monitors quality assurance processes to identify and resolve defects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Manages Application IT Services Desk for internal and external applications owned by the team.

Required Skills:

  • Proven communication skills, effectively communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to provide guidance, mentorship and career development opportunities for team members.
  • Deep understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and DevOps
  • Demonstrated experience in successful application implementation.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest technologies and trends in application development
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, including potential competitive and conflicting priorities, dependencies, change and time pressures.
  • Proven experience as a senior manager with strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in application development and software engineering.
  • Proven experience in program risk management including understanding risk indicators and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Proven experience in successfully executing projects from conception to completion, managing multi-disciplined teams, conflict resolution, resource constraints, and collaboration. 
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and other development processes.
  • Experience with ASP.NET, VB and C, Visual Studio and Windows.
  • Experience with data integration, REST API, data ingestion, ETL, Data Lake or Data marts and database experience with SQL server.
  • Experience with CSS, HTML or web-based applications with various programming languages and development tools
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Automate and PowerApps
  • Experience with cloud computing and other emerging technologies.
