Senior Safety Leader (Global Real Estate and Facilities)

We are seeking an experienced, strategic Senior Leader to direct and elevate employee safety culture and performance initiatives for the Global Real Estate and Facilities (GREF) organization, focusing on the ~1200 union-represented employees made up of skilled trades and custodians supporting 24 x 7 operations. This leader will drive strong, sustainable safety culture initiatives, combining systems, leadership development, and both team and personal accountability, and instilling incident & injury free mindset across the workforce while supporting operational excellence.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the the listed locations.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and direction for safety initiatives across all shifts and trade groups, ensuring alignment with GREF leadership and EHS objectives.

  • Safety Culture Development: Drive a visible, inclusive safety culture where safety is a core value: set expectations, model behaviors, and hold leaders and individuals accountable for safety outcomes.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with EHS and other functions to support worker safety initiatives, ensuring a cohesive approach to safety across the organization.

  • Accountability Frameworks: Design and implement clear accountability frameworks that define team-level and individual safety responsibilities, and performance expectations.

  • Incident Management: Lead incident investigation and root cause analysis for all recordable incidents and significant near misses; develop and drive corrective/preventive action plans and share lessons learned.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA, local/state authorities, industry-specific standards) and lead or partner with EHS on inspections and responses as necessary.

  • Safety Metrics: Maintain and report key safety metrics and translate data into prioritized action plans and communicate progress to senior leadership.

  • Behavior-Based Safety: Drive behavior-based safety initiatives, safety leadership coaching, frontline supervisor development, and individual accountability processes (coaching, recognition, corrective action).

  • Resource Management: Manage safety budgets, equipment, and resources; propose investments to reduce risk and support continuous improvement.

Culture & Accountability Expectations

  • Accountability Model: Create and enforce a clear accountability model that includes defined safety roles and responsibilities, routine safety observations, documented coaching conversations, and measurable follow-through on action items.

  • Leader-Standard Work: Establish leader-standard work for site leaders (safety focals, leads, managers, and leadership team) that includes daily safety rounds, documented handoffs, and timely closure of corrective actions.

  • Personal Accountability: Promote personal accountability through individual performance goals tied to safety behaviors and outcomes; partner with HR to align recognition and corrective processes.

  • Team Accountability: Embed team accountability by driving ownership of leading indicators (e.g., safety observations, task hazard analyses, near-miss reporting) and linking them to team performance reviews.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a large organization, with a focus on driving cultural transformation and safety initiatives.

  • 5+ years experience performing health and safety risk assessments, developing and managing safety programs, and performing audits

  • 3+ years experience with safety culture program development and support

  • 3+ years experience gathering and analyzing data

  • Willing and able to work outside of standard business hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays)

  • Ability to travel 10-20 of the time

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial safety or related fields, with a passion for safety and cultural transformation.

  • Experience working with union labor and collective bargaining environments.

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry-specific standards; experience leading regulatory inspections and compliance management

  • Experience managing multi-site or multi-shift safety programs for 500+ employees.

  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certifications.

  • Experience with digital safety management systems, predictive analytics, and mobile safety tools.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as spanet and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range: $190,257 - $257,600
