Job SummaryThe Senior Systems Support Technologist provides implementation, configuration specification, installation support, administration and troubleshooting for new or existing advanced electronic systems such as, but not limited to, those utilized in support of Air Traffic Management Service by NAV CANADA.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to interact with various internal stakeholders, including the FAA for technical support and considerations, Technology Infrastructure team, Life Cycle Management team as well as our ATS Training teams.

Going forward, the incumbent will also have the opportunity to participate and contribute to the upcoming replacement the TFMS (Traffic Flow Management System) with the FAA.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Tests and verifies scheduled releases of TFMS software prior to national release, including documenting and implementing proof of performance test
  • Creates procedures for the installation of TFMS software
  • Understands and manages TFMS interface with other NAV CANADA systems
  • Creates documentation using technology business management system (TBMS)
  • analyzing, recommending and implementing modifications, policies and procedures on system and network administration 
  • analyzing system architecture and system interface changes for assigned systems;  
  • works with application development teams to provide technical expertise, support and guidance 
  • participates in defining the maintenance philosophy and technical certification parameters 
  • participates in system reviews and task analysis 
  • creating system profile to be implemented into the maintenance database?
  • Participating in and contributing to the upcoming evolutionary traffic flow system

Education/Occupational Certification: 

  • Successful completion of secondary school and completion of a full time post-secondary diploma in electronics technology at a recognized institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

Experience:  

  • 3-5 years’ experience in installation, configuration administration and supporting of Linux and/or Microsoft Windows Operating Systems as well as server and workstations applications 
  • Proven experience in the development, modification of installation and user documentation for new or existing systems including testing and verification 
  • Experience in the life cycle support of deployed safety critical systems including the application of maintenance policies and practices 
  • Experience in the coordination of small to medium sized projects and external customer interaction 
  • Experience with quality management systems and change management processes

Knowledge: (Weighting 25) 

  • Knowledge of electronic theory, computer systems, and network management 
  • Knowledge of techniques and best practices to maintain and verify mission critical electronic equipment and systems 
  • Knowledge of failure mode effects and criticality analysis (FMECA), Technical Services maintenance response time (MRT), NAV CANADA system safety Level (SSL)   
  • In-depth knowledge of the NC ANS (CNS & ATM) interoperability diagrams 
  • In-depth knowledge of network, data center, cloud services troubleshooting techniques and maintenance best practices 
  • In-depth knowledge of system hardening best practices 
  • In-depth knowledge of ICAO Policies, Transport Canada ANS Policies, ANS Policies, T-BMS, NC Safety and Quality Policies, Cybersecurity Policies, and the associated tools. 
  • In-depth knowledge of business planning to develop timelines and procedures for installation and maintenance of systems 
  • In-depth knowledge of various hardware interface protocol and standards and of various communication protocol and standards

Working Conditions

  • This position is based at Ottawa TSC but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
