Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

As the Site Lead for Early Operations, you will be part of a small team fielding Joby’s S4 eVTOL aircraft and maturing flight operations ahead of commercial launch. The site lead will coordinate Joby’s efforts to establish a flight base at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, and represent Joby in the greater Tampa area. Alongside forging strong DoD and local area relationships, the site lead will work closely with teams at Joby including flight test, commercial operations, training, maintenance, logistics, finance, and various engineering departments to deploy and sustain a multi-aircraft footprint at the base.This role represents a unique opportunity to shape an emerging industry’s partnership with federal customers and advance the adoption of eVTOL aircraft. Successful candidates will be able to communicate across multiple disciplines, navigate dynamic organizations, and prioritize against competing deliverables. An ideal candidate should be a team player able to operate in a fast-paced, demanding, and rewarding environment. Due to the nature of the role, up to 30 travel may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the site activation planning activities required to establish a Joby base of operations in Florida
  • Coordinate the cross-country deployment of S4s, including for the first aircraft arrival at MacDill AFB
  • Support all aspects of Joby’s day-to-day operations across all on-site teams
  • Develop local-area partnerships that will expand potential S4 operating locations to increase civil exposure of the S4 aircraft
  • Execute contractual deliverables in accordance with Joby’s partnership with AFWERX
  • Manage the program’s budget, including monthly reviews with Joby’s finance team
  • Provide executive-level status updates to communicate progress, objectives, and upcoming initiatives
  • Build a holistic understanding of eVTOL operations, becoming a foremost expert in understanding how to further expand the S4 footprint
  • Support other locations, including international, on a temporary basis if needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Required
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate government and preferably DoD organizations
  • 6+ years in aviation or aerospace, particularly in fields such as piloting, flight test, and/ or maintenance or airfield operations
  • Experience in project management defined by highly cross-functional planning and successful execution
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an aerospace-relevant field, engineering, or business
  • Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills spanning the use of Microsoft Office products and executive-level briefs
  • Experience managing and being accountable for a budget
  • Self-motivated and professional, with an ability to operate autonomously, an affinity for problem solving, and comfort in ambiguous situations
Desired
  • Graduate-level degree, particularly in an aerospace-relevant field, engineering, or business
  • Familiarity with additional project management tools such as Confluence, Jira, ClickUp, etc
  • Passionate about aviation, technology, and the intersection thereof

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay, bonus, and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $98,300 - $166,500/yr. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
