SUPERVISOR, FABRICATION & MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS (LAUNCH PADS)

The Fabrication and Maintenance team is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all Ground Support Equipment. The scope of this includes maintaining the existing GSE assets, as well as fabrication, testing and activation of new or improved systems, and any troubleshooting to ensure a completed product is delivered to the operations team. As a Supervisor, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team with a wide range of skillsets. This team is responsible for working within launch manifests on each pad to complete regular planned preventative maintenance, and support upgrades to the existing GSE launch systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and steer technician resources on a day-to-day basis.
  • Work with engineers to improve area safety, processes, procedures, and efficiency through regular auditing.
  • Coordinate support organization efforts to minimize manifest delays, and maximize cross training within the organization. This includes supporting launch operations or launch pad refurbishment through unique times when additional labor is needed to meet the launch manifest.
  • Ensure workmanship quality and conformance to industry and SpaceX standards within the fabrication and repair of ground system hardware and equipment for multiple technical disciplines including fluids, instrumentation, welding, orbital tube welding and machining.
  • Manage the daily execution of pad PM plans, including but not limited to scheduling, addressing findings, and standardizing repairs.
  • Interface with area leadership, and prioritize work based on launch schedule and organizational goals.
  • Communicate build-schedule and maintenance schedules to ensure critical deadlines are met.
  • Determine what work can be done with internal technician resources and what needs to be outsourced to meet desired deadlines.
  • Interact with vendors and contractors regularly to obtain quotes for desired work, to drive projects, and to resolve technical issues to completion.
  • Report on key performance indicators (KPI), and develop plans for continued improvement, such as personnel training development, utilization and open work, and technical debt.
Job Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • 5+ years of professional experience working with ground support systems including high-pressure gas, cryogenic, hydraulic, electrical, welding, or monitoring systems.
  • 1+ years of professional experience in a leadership position, working in a hands-on role focused on testing and/or troubleshooting fluid and/or electrical systems.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ground support equipment experience in the aerospace industry, military or aviation.
  • Experience applying lean manufacturing principles and efficiency methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret controlled documentation and processes, such as: cable harnesses, wiring diagrams, layout drawings, mechanical drawings, GD&T, assembly procedures/work instructions, schematics, engineering drawings, and parts lists.
  • Able to adapt to constant changing work assignments and fast paced work environment.
  • Proficient with computers and the ability to use MS Office, shop floor management software (ERP), and related programs
  • Experience with navigating, or a willingness to learn, computer-aided design or engineering programs (NX, AutoCAD, MATLAB) for GSE renderings.
  • 2+ years of experience managing 5+ employees.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Vandenberg and Cape Canaveral.
  • Hardware is sometimes built in tight quarters, and physical dexterity is required.
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting and carrying weight such as materials or equipment (up to 30 lbs. unassisted).
  • Ability to work at elevated heights (scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts, and launch platforms).
  • Occasionally exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain).
  • Must be willing to work overtime, nights, and weekends as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Supervisor: $105,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
