We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Shop Lead to oversee and manage our Tacoma Narrows Airport (KTIW) maintenance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aviation maintenance, possess exceptional leadership skills, and be passionate about ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality service. This role involves managing a crew of technicians, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining a smooth workflow in the maintenance shop.
As a key leader in our organization, you will be responsible for mentoring your team, optimizing shop performance, and ensuring customer satisfaction through excellent service. Maintenance Shop Leads report to the Director of Maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team: Direct and manage a team of aviation maintenance technicians, ensuring they work cohesively and effectively to meet operational goals.
- Coordinate daily tasks and workflow: Schedule and manage workloads, ensuring the team’s work is completed on time and meets quality standards.
- Foster a positive work environment: Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and excellence while maintaining a productive environment.
- Conduct performance evaluations: Provide regular feedback and identify opportunities for professional growth for each technician.
- Manage technician schedules and workloads: Assist in organizing and optimizing resource allocation to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Ensure compliance: Oversee adherence to FAA regulations and company policies.
- Serve as a point of contact for management: Address any operational issues and ensure smooth communication with upper management.
Operational Management
- Oversee daily shop operations: Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and on time.
- Maintain inventory levels: Monitor and manage inventory for tools, parts, and materials, ordering supplies as needed to ensure continuous workflow.
- Track job progress: Monitor ongoing projects, ensuring they are completed within budget and on schedule.
- Maintain quality control: Confirm all maintenance meets manufacturer specifications, FAA guidelines, and company policies.
- Implement operational procedures: Refine and enhance procedures to improve shop efficiency and reduce downtime.
Safety:
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment: Ensure a safe, organized, and compliant work area for technicians, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Enforce safety standards: Ensure all technicians follow proper safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
- Evaluate safety practices: Regularly review and improve safety measures to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.
Administrative and Documentation:
- Oversee work orders and logs: Manage the completion of maintenance logs, work orders, and all necessary documentation to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensure regulatory compliance: Verify all maintenance work complies with FAA regulations and that required documentation is completed.
- Stay updated on regulations: Monitor changes to service bulletins, airworthiness directives (ADs), and other regulatory updates.
Continuous Improvement:
- Evaluate shop performance: Regularly assess the shop's efficiency, quality, and productivity, identifying areas for improvement.
- Facilitate team meetings: Lead meetings to address challenges, share best practices, and align on shop goals and procedures.
- Recommend process improvements: Provide suggestions for workflow, technology, and training upgrades to enhance shop operations.
- Ensure shop readiness: Ensure the shop is equipped with the necessary tools, resources, and knowledge to address all maintenance needs.
Qualifications:
- A&P certificate required; IA preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in general aviation maintenance, including leadership responsibilities.
- Proven ability to manage, mentor, and guide a team.
- Familiarity with FAA regulations, service bulletins, ADs, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities to interact professionally with technicians and management.
- Capable of making quick decisions under pressure and handling complex issues.
- Familiarity with aviation tools, safety practices, and maintenance management software.
- Strong understanding of parts procurement, inventory management, and cost optimization.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move parts weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in an environment with varying temperatures and conditions (e.g., warehouses, hangars).
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods of time.

- Compensation: Hourly wage beginning at $40.00 (depending on experience)
