Job Description:

Qatar Airways (QR) have embarked on an exciting transformation journey to change how we interact with our customers. As part of this journey, we are now recruiting for the role of Tax and Compliance Manager.

Based in New York City, you will contribute to advising, preparing, reviewing, ensuring timely tax payments, filing, i.e. handling all tax compliance and being responsible for taxation matters for US and Latin American countries along with compliance of Corporate Laws, and other allied laws such as property tax, real estate tax, local business tax, etc.  

Salary: 84,000 to 112,000.

Specific Accountabilities include

  • Ensure compliance with all tax laws and regulations (both at federal and provincial level).
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, if required, under Direct and Indirect Taxes.
  • Review and update the countrys VAT and taxation accounting policies and procedures in accordance with the countrys local law.
  • Ensure correct accounting of the tax computation as per local law, ensure timely payment due of taxes and filing of tax returns.
  • Conduct monthly review of tax-related accounting, perform rectification if required.
  • Preparation and filing of corporate income tax return for airline as per local laws with no delay.
  • Review and establish controls on tax payable to authority and recoverable from the government and implement the appropriate process to comply with local taxation regulations.
  • Process Quarterly/Annual Compliance – Withholding tax returns / statements.
  • Prepare and update regularly a comprehensive compliance checklist for all applicable taxes to ensure tax payments and filing on a timely basis.
  • Ensure tax registration for new stations in coordination with Head Office (HO) Tax Unit and stakeholders.
  • Provide Business finance support during the time of station closures and for new stations with regard to tax related issues and company registrations.
  • Ensure tax health check is performed for all stations.
  • Responsible for leading all tax litigation in direct tax and indirect tax.
  • Manage all the local tax issues & regulation for all taxation rules as per country law.
  • Other duties as requested by the Management

Qualifications

About You - The successful person will have:

  • Relevant college or university qualifications to the minimum Bachelors level.
  • Preferred Post Graduate in taxation from reputed university.
  • With a professional accounting certificate like CA/CPA/ACCA/CIMA/ICWA or MBA Finance from a reputed institute or university.
  • Minimum 5 years of job-related experience required.
  • Experience in airline industry taxation.
  • Has a good exposure in a similar position at a similar station or region.
  • Preferred: Be able to communicate/read in Spanish and Portugese

Job Specific Skills:

  • User level experience in any ERP.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets.
  • A strong aviation specific profile in either expenditure or revenue accounting.
  • Should be able to analyze and explain financial accounts / Management accounts to finance and non-finance audiences.
  • Knowledge of contracts.
  • Knowledge of local laws and regulations like Corporate Tax, VAT, Withholding Taxes, Payroll Taxes, Accounting Standards, Book keeping, etc.
  • Knowledge of the countrys Laws.
  • Managerial skills. Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Ability to train and  develop subordinate’s skills. The ability to foster teamwork among team members.
