The Transportation Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing transportation and logistics operations in support of a federal government contract. This role ensures compliance with applicable federal regulations (FAR, DFARS), manages carrier relationships, and oversees the secure and timely movement of goods and materials to meet mission-critical objectives.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement transportation strategies aligned with contract requirements and government logistics standards.
- Manage daily transportation operations including freight scheduling, routing, and carrier performance.
- Ensure compliance with FAR/DFARS, GSA transportation programs, and agency-specific logistics protocols.
- Coordinate with internal teams and government stakeholders to support delivery timelines and operational readiness.
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits, inspections, and contract reporting.
- Oversee use of government logistics systems and ensure data integrity.
- Supervise transportation staff and ensure adherence to safety, security, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of federal acquisition regulations and transportation-specific clauses.
- Familiarity with GSA transportation programs and systems.
- Familiarity with Personal Property Moves, TDY, ETS, allowances.
- Strong analytical, and leadership skills. Previous management experience in the Army (Pay Grade E7 & above).
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Skills in verbal and written communications to conduct meetings, execute plans, and prepare reports, plans, and working instructions.
- Ability to provide information and reports, resolve issues and recommend actions to improve delivery of services to the customers.
- Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
- Ability to maintain a government Common Access Card (CAC).
- Valid Driver License.
- High School Diploma.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of FSGA transportation functions on Ft. Stewart, GA.
- Quality Management experience.
- Experience working with Labor Unions.
