BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair (JSR) is seeking a knowledgeable, energetic, and experienced MIG welder to lead our Welding School and our Weld Training Program. From its shipyard in Jacksonville, Florida, BAE Systems performs welding repairs and structural fabrication work on behalf of Private and Commercial customers, U.S Navy customers, and U.S Navy Prime Contractor customers. BAE Systems’ efforts are performed in support of both U.S. surface warship and U.S. submarine end users. In Jacksonville, BAE Systems is in need of an individual who is intimately familiar with industry MIG welding requirements and techniques and is able to utilize that knowledge to develop, implement, and oversee a training curriculum and Welding School which supports the quality and throughput needs of our rapidly growing portfolio. This position will develop curriculum with interaction and inputs from key stakeholders, including Trades Managers, and will establish qualification testing protocols that meet various DoD/DoN requirements, and will lead the evaluation of welders undergoing training and qualifications.
  • This position will report to the Fabrication Craft Manager.
  • Provides planning support for welding operations in manufacture of structural components and products.
  • Develops concepts, designs, performance, and fabrication, test and modifications for these products.
  • Recommends weld equipment, to include mechanized, robotic, and COBOT equipment solutions.
  • Prepares and conducts weld engineering analysis of materials and procedures, engaged in weld procedure and performance qualifications.
  • Utilizes knowledge of metallurgy, material weldability, welding robotics, and associated programming.
  • Develops or contributes to the creation of welding standards and specifications. Works closely with the customer who may provide specific WPS to integrate into the company’s weld training program.
  • Develops special weld repairs as necessary.
  • Responsible for training, hiring, performance development, evaluations and advancements of Department personnel.
  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Manages and provides direction and oversight to the Department personnel.
  • Manages time collection and time charging for direct reports and approve timesheets in accordance with BAE Systems Time Collection Policy.
  • Leader in Safety. Ensures team compliance with all company & OSHA-regulated safety requirements/standards; and environmental and ethical requirements.


Job Requirements:
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Associates degree in a relevant technical discipline plus 6 years of relevant experience. Combination of industry, technical, and management experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Previous experience training and qualifying welding employees
  • Knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures of involving weld engineering.
  • Capable of understanding and interpreting technical and/or engineering drawings.
  • Understanding of equipment and technologies relevant to welding and weld engineering
  • Working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a relevant technical field of specialization.
  • Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with customers to solve moderately complex technical problems.
  • Understanding and experience working under MIL-STD 248, MIL-STD 1688, MIL-STD 1689, and/or MIL-STD 271 requirements.


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial weld standards and design standards.
  • Certification with AWS as a CWI or other relevant certification.
  • Moderate knowledge of nondestructive testing scope and capabilities.
  • Experience with GMAW, steel and other metals, and NDT inspection a plus.
  • Understand and working knowledge of NAVSEA specifications and NAVSEA Standard items, USCG, ABS, and other marine guidelines.
  • Must be able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures and government regulations.
  • Previous experience in directly managing employees is a plus.
  • Must be able to board ships, enter confined spaces with limited visibility and have the ability to climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights to complete the job or inspections.
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Should have a knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel documents.
  • Oversee worker compliance with the following appropriate procedures in the areas of production, accuracy control, safety, cost, and quality assurance.
  • The selected Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a government \"DBIDS\" access card.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $87700 - $149100

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
