The Etch Line Operator is responsible for performing chemical stripping, cleaning, etching, and phosphoric acid anodizing (PAA) operations on aerospace components undergoing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO). The operator ensures all processes meet BAC5555, BAC5719, and other OEM or customer specifications. This role plays a critical part in surface preparation for bonding, coating, or inspection as part of the aircraft component repair cycle.
- Operate and monitor chemical processing lines including BAC5555 etch and PAA anodize per customer and internal specifications.
- Prepare, mask, and rack incoming repair components for chemical processing in accordance with work instructions and repair routings.
- Perform chemical stripping and cleaning of paint, coatings, or anodize layers prior to inspection or rework.
- Verify and maintain tank conditions—temperature, concentration, and pH—through regular titrations and documentation.
- Handle parts carefully to maintain dimensional and surface integrity; ensure no damage to critical surfaces.
- Visually inspect and verify etch and anodize quality prior to release for bonding, primer, or assembly.
- Record all process data, chemical additions, and lot traceability in work travelers or MRO control systems.
- Support NADCAP, FAA, and customer audit readiness through proper documentation and process adherence.
- Assist with bath maintenance, filter changes, and tank cleanouts under supervision of the chemical lead.
- Follow all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements for handling, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Communicate any nonconforming conditions, equipment issues, or process deviations immediately to supervision or Quality.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and Lean initiatives to improve process efficiency, safety, and quality.
