This entry level position is designed to assist the Lead Machinist and other members of the Machine Shop with their responsibilities. The goal of the Machinist Assistant is to grow into the position of Machinist, capable of taking on an equal share of the work inside the Machine Shop. The expectation is that this position in the Machine Shop at Neptune Aviation, will be a representation of exceptional craftsmanship, work ethic and professionalism. Essential Responsibilities:
• Maintain a clean & organized machine shop.
• Work in a manner that increases shop productivity.
• Perform basic jobs to include sawing material, deburring parts and cleaning machines.
• Standing for long periods of time while maintaining a high degree of focus.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Learn & grow in use of manual & automated machines.
• Ability to use experience in the shop to support project work.
• Project management.

Additional Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Able to communicate complex ideas clearly.
• Must be willing to maintain a clean work environment and participate in shop clean up.
• May be required at times to perform other task assigned to the shop, carpentry, driving, concrete work, design and building of test equipment.
• Operate equipment such as forklift, and man lifts to heights above 20 feet.
• Use what you have learned to train others.

Required Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to the following would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities needed to qualify.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent Certificate
• Commitment to the mission and vision of Neptune Aviation Services Inc.
• Strong Desire for self-improvement.

Desired Qualifications:
• Familiar with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
• Participation in a robotics or engineering club or other STEM activities.
• Experience with small engines/car/motorcycle/bicycle maintenance.
• Experience with 3D printing and/or CAD design.
• Experience with laser cutters.
• ‘B’ or higher in a geometry and/or calculus course (both preferred).
• Completion of a physics course
• Experience teaching or coaching.
• Knowledge of machining operations on lathe and mill.
• Two-year degree in the STEM field.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort. Frequently lifting parts and equipment that weigh up to 25 pounds. Occasionally lift and carry items may weigh up to 50 pounds. Heavier weights may be lifted with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers. Use of cleaning chemicals, solvents, grease, and aircraft fluids are common in the workplace.
