Machinist – Aircraft Fabrication & Tooling

Position Summary

The Machinist is responsible for machining and fabrication of aircraft parts, tooling, and interior components. This position requires the ability to operate both manual and CNC machines, as well as conventional fabrication equipment, to produce high-quality, airworthy parts. The Machinist ensures that all functions are performed in accordance with established company policies, procedures, and safety standards, and that required documentation is accurate and complete.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Fabricate parts and assemblies in accordance with work orders and engineering drawings.
  • Estimate material requirements, tools, and equipment needed to perform assigned jobs.
  • Set up and operate machines and tools to cut, form, finish, and bond materials as required.
  • Fabricate machined metal parts for aircraft, tooling, and interior components.
  • Perform detailed inspections of finished parts to ensure quality and conformance.
  • Maintain work orders, call for inspection as necessary, and ensure documentation is complete.
  • Use precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, and indicators.
  • Perform routine maintenance on shop equipment and tools.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication, coordination, and working relationships with personnel and management.
  • Ensure all machining and fabrication functions are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of machining/fabrication experience or certificate of completion from a machining trade school.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Ability to use manual and CNC machinery (lathe, milling machine, bandsaws, grinders, waterjet, etc.).
  • Ability to use fabrication equipment (metal brake, shear, hand tools, drilling equipment, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and quality standards.
  • Ability to closely follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to understand and communicate in Standard English, including technical vocabulary.
  • Must be able to adhere to all established safety policies, processes, and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of machining and fabrication experience, preferably in an aerospace environment.
  • Hands-on experience working with sheet metal.
  • Experience with bonding and assembly of aircraft interior components.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic.
  • Working knowledge of trigonometry, algebra, and geometry.
  • Ability to work in fractions and decimals using standard units of measure.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand for up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for fine manipulation and handling small objects.
  • Ability to walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate clearly.
  • Medium work: lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Work performed in hangar/warehouse settings with occasional outdoor exposure.
  • Subject to fumes, odors, dust, gases, moving machinery, vibration, and varying temperatures (extreme heat/cold).
  • Hazardous conditions may include high places, chemical exposure, and electrical current.
  • Hearing protection is required; other PPE must be used as appropriate.
  • Injury exposure could include blindness, burns, severe cuts, or disfigurement.

Travel

Occasional travel may be required (10 or less).

Work Authorization / Security Clearance

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer DOT drug test.
