This role will work closely with the IHSS Chief Engineer, suppliers (including Spirit), manufacturing teams and test facilities to define specifications, lead trials, produce technical documentation and ensure readiness for manufacturing and FAT/SAT activities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Complete microsection and NDI specifications for resin test panels.
  • Update skin preform specifications and convert 3D CAD to DXF files for ply cutting.
  • 8m RTM tool & process development
  • Develop FAT/SAT documentation and support manufacturing, FAT and SAT activities.
  • Commission and run initial trials in COMPASS; iterate process settings and tooling.
  • Produce process and quality requirement documents and panel NDI requirements.
  • Update 8m demonstrator documentation to reflect current design baseline.
  • RTM seal & skin consolidation tools
  • Capture and report seal development learnings to Boeing stakeholders.
  • Support supplier design reviews, FAT/SAT and tool commissioning in COMPASS.

  • Define layup requirements for fibreform, fibretack and fibereye; support supplier trials and RL assessment preparation.
  • Digital (3m & 8m data analysis)
  • Define sensor/data processing and analysis needs; deliver and validate software solutions and workflows to be ready for 8m trials.

The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Sheffield.

Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing or similar engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience in composite manufacturing/process engineering, preferably RTM/infusion or similar processes.
  • Demonstrated experience producing technical specs, FAT/SAT documentation and overseeing trials/troubleshooting in a manufacturing/test environment.
  • Experience with NDI, microsectioning and quality requirements for composite panels.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and generating DXF outputs for ply cutting.
  • Strong supplier engagement, design review and commissioning experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with COMPASS or similar RTM tooling/test facilities.
  • Experience with stringer/fibreform processes and layup consumables (fibretack, fibereye).
  • Familiarity with RFQ, SSOW preparation, and readiness level (RL) assessments.
  • Basic scripting or data-analysis skills and experience delivering/validating software tools for manufacturing data.

Typical Education & Experience:

  • Excellent technical writing and report-generation skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management — able to lead KOMs and design reviews.
  • Problem-solving mindset with hands-on commissioning and test experience.
  • Organized, able to manage multiple workstreams and shifting priorities.
  • Willingness to travel to supplier sites and COMPASS for trials and FAT/SAT events.
