Job Description

The Composite Technician is responsible for manufacturing composite parts using filament winding equipment to produce high-quality components and structures that meet project specifications. This role involves operating and maintaining winding machines and related equipment, assembling parts according to detailed instructions, and ensuring all products comply with standard procedures and process specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a hands-on working knowledge of filament winding machines, resin mixing equipment, hoists, extractors, curing ovens, and other ancillary equipment required in the winding process.
  • Produce composite products in accordance with standard procedures, process specifications, and written work instructions.
  • Set up and tear down production machinery, validate the progress of machine operations, and make adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Feed raw materials or parts into semi-automated machines and monitor their performance throughout the production cycle.
  • Gather parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials needed to complete each production process accurately and on time.
  • Position parts and subassemblies using templates or by reading and interpreting measurements to ensure precise alignment and fit.
  • Assemble parts to match product specifications, using hand tools and power tools as required.
  • Perform data entry tasks, including entering production and process information into Excel or other digital systems.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area within the production environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to support smooth workflow and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English.
  • Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools.
  • Ability to accurately use measuring devices such as pi-tape, calipers, and air pressure gauges.
  • Ability to operate power tools including hand saws, drill guns, and band saws.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and machinery.
  • Assembly experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with composites or textiles in a manufacturing setting.
  • Basic data entry skills and ability to input information into Excel or similar software.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical degree or vocational training in a related field is a plus.
  • Experience with Fanuc controls is a strong plus.
  • Prior experience in composite manufacturing, filament winding, or similar processes is beneficial.
  • Background in production environments that require precision measurement and quality control.
  • Comfort working with both hand tools and power tools in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production and manufacturing environment focused on the manufacture of composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs) used in advanced aerospace applications. You will work around filament winding equipment, resin mixing systems, curing ovens, and other high-speed machinery in a facility that emphasizes precision and quality. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with typical workweeks around 50 hours and occasional Saturdays as needed. The environment requires regular use of hand tools, power tools, and measurement devices, along with data entry into Excel to document production activities. You should expect a hands-on, shop-floor setting where safety procedures, attention to detail, and teamwork are essential

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
