Manufacturing Engineer – Defence Sector
Location: Barrow
Salary: 40000 - 45000 dependent on experience. Plus 650 per month if you live 50 miles or more away
Hours: 37 per week
We’re seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join a leading organisation in the defence sector. You’ll work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering Lead, supporting production and assembly operations while helping to drive quality, efficiency, and process improvements.
About the Role
In this hands-on role, you will provide technical guidance to manufacturing and assembly teams, ensuring products are built to the highest standards. You’ll act as the key link between engineering and operations, ensuring smooth communication and problem resolution. From interpreting complex technical drawings to driving continuous improvement initiatives, you will play a vital part in delivering projects on time, to budget, and to exacting standards.
Key Responsibilities

Provide technical guidance and problem-solving expertise to production and assembly teams

Act as the communication bridge between engineering and manufacturing

Assess manufacturability of components and machine tool capabilities

Participate in PFMEA activities, including process mapping and risk mitigation

Interpret and produce manufacturing drawings

Ensure planning and processes meet quality assurance requirements

Identify and implement process and tooling improvements to boost quality and efficiency

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers as required

Create work orders and compile accurate technical packs with routings and operations
Required Skills & Experience

Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or 5+ years of equivalent experience

Strong working knowledge of manufacturing methods for rotating components (turning, boring, milling)

Ability to interpret technical drawings and create/approve stage manufacturing drawings

Strong understanding of GD&T

CNC programming experience
Desirable

SAP experience

Background in heavy industrial or marine gearbox assembly

Ability to read and interrogate 3D models using Solid Edge

Knowledge of rotating equipment assembly methods
