Salary: 55,000 + 1,500 monthly allowance (claimable)
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our defence-sector engineering team in Barrow-in-Furness. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex, precision-engineered products within a fast-paced, technically advanced environment.
Reporting to the Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll play a key role in supporting production and assembly operations, driving manufacturing excellence, and contributing to continuous improvement across the business. You’ll act as a technical bridge between manufacturing, design, and quality teams, ensuring best-in-class production capability and delivery.
Key Responsibilities

Provide technical guidance and hands-on problem-solving support to manufacturing and assembly teams.

Act as the key liaison between engineering and production, ensuring clear and accurate communication across teams.

Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for gear profile generation (hobbing, shaping, profile grinding) and finish grinding.

Support design reviews with manufacturability insights and ensure a “right first time” approach.

Lead PFMEA activities, including process mapping, risk mitigation, and documentation.

Interpret technical drawings and produce detailed manufacturing documentation.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and process reliability.

Develop and implement bespoke tooling and methods while maintaining machinery safety standards.

Collaborate with design, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment and delivery of project goals.

Support the transition toward digital measurement methodologies and automation of data processing.
About You
You are an experienced manufacturing engineer with a strong background in precision engineering and CNC machining. You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy solving complex technical challenges that improve processes and outcomes.
Essential Skills & Experience

Proven experience in manufacturing of rotating components (turning, boring, milling).

Strong understanding of GD&T and dimensional measurement principles.

Experience in CNC programming and working knowledge of manufacturing systems (SAP awareness advantageous).

Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD for layouts and documentation.

Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and influence others.

A proactive, analytical approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
