Airbus UpNext is looking for the Technical Leader for a new demonstrator, aiming at demonstrating 5G Non-Terrestrial-Network capabilities based on space platforms.

The demonstrator team will deliver an extremely ambitious and disruptive demonstrator, explore and show feasibility of many new technologies and with this support the strategic ambitions of Airbus. As such, be prepared for a wild ride, testing unconventional ways of driving a project at a fast pace, and be ready for many pivots throughout, as we will explore the unknown. In this context you will bring in your technical knowledge about various components, software design as well as overall integration.

As the Technical Leader you are acting as the co-brain of the Demonstrator Leader, who holds the overall accountability for the demonstrator.

This position is based in Toulouse, and we will collaborate with teams across Europe and an international partnership landscape. 

This job comes with a 3 year CDI-C contract.

Under the French classification system the role is classified as H16.

Missions:

Passionate and impatient about testing hypotheses and bringing learning into the business based on concrete demonstrations, you are the type of person who thinks about “how things can be done” rather than “if they can be done”.

By being a technical leader, you will:

  • Prepare and drive the engineering integration of the demonstrator architecture. 

  • Influence and shape the design to meet the challenging timeline and budget of the project.

  • Drive the definition of requirements, prioritizing the performance and speed of execution while maintaining adherence to the 3GPP standard, influencing the guidelines principles.

  • Define and validate the technical phasing plan to fulfill the Top Project Objectives.

  • Be in charge to deliver the design in line with quality, approval and space hardening needs.

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Lead the cell of competences for all technical bricks teams of the demo.

What you bring:

  • Communication Satellite End to End system engineering.

  • Strong space engineering background enabling quick and solid decision making.

  • 3GPP knowledge is a plus.

  • Passion about technology, science.

  • Relevant experience in overall leadership of complex engineering projects.

  • Expertise in benefits and dependency mapping, risk management, quality control, resources, planning, contracts and intellectual property.

  • Able to motivate, influence, inspire and empower team members to a high level of performance to meet immediate team objectives and deliver towards overall team goals.

  • Leadership, interpersonal, multi-tasking and organization skills.

  • Written and oral communication skills, including the ability to speak and write about technical issues, sharing information in an engaging and relatable way.

  • Demonstrated ability to set and meet goals, assess resource needs, develop schedules, monitor and communicate status, and experiment new ways of working.

  • Able to take initiatives to propose simpler and efficient ways of working.
