DPP is seeking an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategist for an opportunity in Columbia, SC.
 
Location: Columbia, SC (Hybrid: 2-3 days onsite per week)
Duration: 12-month contract with possible extension
Term: W2 position
 
Position summary:
  • The AI Strategist supports an enterpriselevel organization in defining, shaping, and implementing a comprehensive strategy for artificial intelligence adoption.
  • Reporting directly to executive leadership and working closely with the Chief Technology Officer, this role is responsible for guiding AI vision, identifying opportunities for responsible and ethical AI use, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • The AI Strategist will drive strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, change management, and AI literacy across the organization. 
General nature of work:
  • The AI Strategist recommends strategies that leverage a wide range of AI technologies to enhance operational efficiency, improve services delivered to the public, and strengthen regulatory compliance.
  • This role collaborates with leadership, technology teams, legal resources, and business units to foster innovation, maintain transparency, and ensure ethical and responsible AI practices. 
Key responsibilities:
  • Cocreate an enterprise AI strategy with executive leadership and technology teams, ensuring alignment with mission outcomes and public services.
  • Maintain a prioritized portfolio of AI use cases and establish frameworks for responsible and ethical AI adoption.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations through coordinated governance with technology, legal, and data governance groups.
  • Define and enforce principles for ethical AI use, including fairness, transparency, and humanintheloop oversight.
  • Conduct impact assessments related to privacy, security, and algorithmic bias. Perform audits and communicate findings to leadership.
  • Partner with program areas to identify opportunities, define requirements, and establish success metrics for AI solutions.
  • Serve as a business product owner for AI initiatives, ensuring measurable outcomes and organizational adoption.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to support technical readiness, platform alignment, secure deployment, and risk management.
  • Develop training programs, playbooks, and communication materials to advance AI literacy across roles.
  • Lead change management efforts to support adoption, trust, and awareness of AI initiatives.
  • Participate in vendor evaluations and procurement activities to ensure solutions meet technical, ethical, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor AI solution performance and key performance indicators (KPIs); publish impact reports to support continuous improvement.
  • Communicate progress and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders to maintain transparency and accountability. 
Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree plus relevant program management experience.
  • Experience with AI technologies, machine learning, and data governance.
  • Experience in government or the public sector. 
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Strong understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data governance principles.
  • Experience with strategic planning, organizational change management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working in government or the public sector (preferred).
  • Knowledge of project planning, policy development, and enterpriselevel technology initiatives.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, management, technical teams, and vendors.
  • Ability to provide guidance and make recommendations to seniorlevel leadership.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problemsolving skills. 
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, data science, or a related field.
  • 5 or more years of progressive experience in AI strategy, data analytics, or information technology.
  • At least 2 years of experience with AI technologies, machine learning, and data governance.
  • At least 5 years of experience in strategic planning, change management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • 5 or more years of experience working in government or the public sector. 
Special requirements:
  • Operates under limited supervision and exercises independent judgment.
  • May require occasional instate or outofstate travel.
  • May require evenings, weekends, or afterhours support.
  • May require participation in emergency response activities.
  • Hybrid role requiring 2–3 days onsite per week in Columbia, SC.
