About this positionThe Assistant Chief Pilot is responsible to assist the Chief Pilot in the overall supervision of the flight crew and all flying activities. The main focus of their duties will apply to the supervision of the training activities. They will continue to perform line duties at a reduced rate according to Company requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1) Ensuring that all Flight Operations Standards and Training department personnel have safety as their primary objective by adhering to the Canadian North safety policy and utilizing the appropriate safety reporting program in order to identify and communicate all known hazards and risks to the organization;
2) Ensuring continual improvement through the periodic review of documented processes;
3) Conducting training and checking activities according to requirements and maintaining required qualifications;
4) Ensuring deficiencies detected during training or checking activities are incorporated back into manuals or training programs for correction;
5) Developing and maintaining Instructor Manual, training, LOFT and PPC scripts incorporating CRM and Human Factors best practices;
6) Assisting Chief Pilot during the development of Standard Operating Procedures;
7) Assisting Chief Pilot with guidance to pilots through most appropriate means;
8) Assisting Chief Pilot with supervision of pilots, instructors and check pilots to ensure the professional standards are maintained and reporting any issues that arise;
9) Ensuring that updates are made to the Flight Operations Training Manual to ensure that training is conducted in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and Company standards;
10) Ensuring that required technical examinations verify both candidate proficiency and training program adequacy;
11) Assisting Senior Manager, Cabin Safety & On Board Product with joint pilot/flight attendant training;
12) Assisting with the acceptance of new aircraft and the modification of aircraft equipment;
13) Conducting line flights as required;
14) Ensuring that the reporting of accidents, incidents or hazards are reported appropriately and within a timely manner;
15) Assisting with safety investigations;
16) Conducting or assisting with audits;
17) Conducting risk assessments and root cause investigation;
18) Assisting with the development and monitoring of corrective action plans;
19) Conducting workplace inspection as required by the Safety Department; and
20) Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
· 2 years of check pilot experience, and 3 years command on type of aircraft (or similar type) on which individual will be managing.
· Must hold current ATPL
· Previous training experience
· Excellent knowledge and understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS)
· Possess strong organizational, interpersonal, communication skills and computer skills
· Demonstrates strong leadership, organizational and customer service skills
· Adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines
· Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset
· Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Pass in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada
