Make an Impact

Join PDS Tech Commercial and a collaborative engineering and manufacturing team that designs and builds custom automation equipment powering critical infrastructure. As an Automation Controls Technician, you’ll play a hands-on role in bringing innovative, high-tech systems to life—from robots and lasers to advanced material handling and automated packaging solutions. Your work will directly support smarter, more efficient production environments that keep industries running.

What You’ll Do

In this dynamic, build-focused role, you will:

  • Partner with engineers and technicians to interpret designs and transform concepts into fully functioning automation systems

  • Assemble, fit, and align mechanical components into complex machinery and equipment

  • Wire, plumb, and integrate systems using electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components

  • Test run equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform repairs or adjustments as needed

  • Study and interpret SolidWorks models, drawings, and specifications to guide builds

  • Organize materials, manage workflow for assigned projects, and maintain a clean work environment

  • Set up and operate machine tools (lathe, mill, welding equipment) to fabricate or modify parts

  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, and conformance to specifications

  • Work with sensors, VFDs, and other automation electronics to support system functionality

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a mechanical, manufacturing, or machinist environment—or equivalent combination of education and hands-on training

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in assembly, fabrication, troubleshooting, and repair

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics

  • Familiarity with basic automation components (sensors, drives, etc.)

  • Comfortable working hands-on with tools, equipment, and machinery

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field

  • Experience with machining (lathe, milling) and welding equipment

  • Exposure to PLCs, robotics, or automation programming (training provided)

  • Background in electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems

  • Practical, real-world mechanical experience (automotive, farm, home projects, etc.)

Why Join Us
  • Innovative Work: Be part of building custom automation systems using cutting-edge technologies

  • Growth Opportunities: Access training in automation, controls, and programming to expand your skill set

  • Collaborative Culture: Work side-by-side with experienced engineers and technicians in a team-oriented environment

  • Meaningful Impact: Contribute to solutions that support critical infrastructure and modern energy systems

  • Career Path: Temp-to-hire opportunity with long-term potential and stability
