Services as a boiler/heating plant mechanic to accomplish installation, repairs, and maintenance to all boilers and heating plants and distribution systems on Redstone Arsenal. Installs, maintains, and repairs all equipment of the steam, condensate, and natural gas distribution systems, including cathodic protection on gas lines and fuel oil tanks that serve boiler/heating plants.
Responsibilities
- Installs, services, repairs, and maintains boiler and heating plant equipment. Includes all components of systems, some of which are gaskets, regulators, valves and piping, tubes, and shells.
- Services, maintains, and replaces feed water systems, chemical feed systems that are dedicated to boiler/heating plants.
- Insulates and paints plant and distribution equipment and piping.
- Installs, services, repairs, and maintains all steam and hot water distribution and condensate return equipment and related piping.
- When required by supervisor, perform required periodic inspection testing, and maintenance of natural gas lines on Redstone Arsenal. Includes cathodic protection devices on natural gas lines and on fuel storage tanks that supply fuel to boiler and heating plants.
- Completes all job-related paperwork and forms. Keeps work, plant, and shop areas clean.

Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent required.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience maintaining boilers or steam and condensate systems.
- Must be willing and available to work various shifts as required.
- Must have valid state drivers license with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Favorable National Agency Check.
- Must have and maintain a Master, Journeyman, or Apprentice Gas Fitter Card as required by supervisor.
- Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- Must be able to receive a security clearance for access to material up to and including SECRET and/or pass a National Agency Check.
