About this positionThe Chief Pilot is responsible for the overall supervision of the flight crew and all flying activities.
Reporting to: Director, Flight Operations

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Ensuring that all Flight Operations Standards and Training department personnel have safety as their primary objective by adhering to the Canadian North safety policy and utilizing the appropriate safety reporting program in order to identify and communicate all known hazards and risks to the organization;
2) Ensuring continual improvement through the periodic review of documented processes
3) Ensuring the professional standards of the flight crew are maintained;
4) Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures;
5) Issuing of directives and notices to the pilots as required;
6) Ensuring the operational suitability and requirements of all aerodromes and routes served by Canadian North;
7) Developing and implementing all required approved pilot training programs;
8) Actioning and distribution of applicable hazard and occurrence reports;
9) Processing and actioning of Line Reports;
10) Supervision of pilots;
11) Ensuring that Canadian North line operations and training are being conducted in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and standards published by the Company;
12) Ensuring that all training PICs and approved check pilots on type are aware and proficient in applying applicable standards;
13) Determining and justifying to Transport Canada satisfaction the number of ACPs, LCPs and Flight & Simulator Instructors required based on fleet size, distribution and flight crew numbers for that fleet;
14) Co-ordinating with the Manager, Flight Crew Training to ensure that required technical examinations verify both candidate proficiency and training program adequacy;
15) Co-ordinating with the other Chief Pilots and Manager, Flight Crew Training in the development of flight training scripts (as applicable);
16) Developing, implementing and administering all simulator pilot proficiency check scripts;
17) Developing, implementing and administering all simulator pilot training scripts;
18) Developing and integrating Human Factors training into all training and check programs;
19) Supervising simulator and flight instructors;
20) Co-ordinating with the Manager, Cabin Safety & Inflight Service for joint Pilot/Flight Attendant training;
21) Co-ordinating with the Crew Planner for flight and simulator planning and scheduling;
22) Liaison with Manager Flight Operations Administration to ensure all pilot records are maintained;
23) Analyzing internal operations audits with respect to flight standards;
24) Maintaining and developing the annual training budget;
25) Developing corrective action plans when non-conformance with applicable regulations and standards is identified;
26) Assisting with the acceptance of new aircraft;
27) Assisting with the modification of aircraft equipment;
28) Reviewing training and PPC reports to identify areas where training emphasis is required;
29) Ensuring aircraft operating manuals contain the most current information;
30) Assuming responsibilities delegated by the Operations Manager;
31) Performing normal line duties as required;
32) Ensuring that the reporting of accidents, incidents or hazards are reported appropriately and within a timely manner;
33) Assisting with safety investigations;
34) Conducting or assisting with audits;
35) Conducting risk assessments and root cause investigation;
36) Assisting with the development and monitoring of corrective action plans;
37) Conducting workplace inspection as required by the Safety Department; and
38) Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Must hold current ATPL
• Previous training experience
• 2 years of check pilot experience, and 3 years command on type of aircraft (or similar type) on which individual will be managing
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS)
• Possess strong organizational, interpersonal & communication skills
• Demonstrates strong leadership, organizational and customer service skills
• Adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines
• Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset
• Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Pass in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada
