PITTSBURGH INSTITUTE OF AERONAUTICS, founded in 1929, is a nationwide leader in aviation maintenance and electronics training and is currently seeking a Custodian at our branch campus in Hagerstown, MD. As the Custodian, your duties will include cleaning the lunchroom, restrooms, office spaces, classrooms, and public glass surfaces; emergency floor cleaning (spills); and answering calls for urgent cleaning needs.
Work Schedule
- Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4pm
Responsibilities:
- Stripping and waxing floors
- Keep walkways free of snow
- Stock janitor closets and restrooms as necessary
- Inspect and clean the common areas
- Sweep entryways and hallways
- Empty trash cans & smoking receptacles
- Change light bulbs as needed
- Inspect and clean restrooms
- Set up stage, tables, chairs, etc. for events as required by management/supervision
- Inform management/supervision of any maintenance deficiencies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Traits:
- Basic technical knowledge of commercial cleaning supplies and tools, common power and hand tools, forklifts, and general maintenance equipment
- Problem-solving, conflict resolution, and collaboration skills
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, lift up to 50 pounds at a time unassisted, and push/pull up to 75lbs
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods (4+ hours) throughout the day.
- Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed per OSHA/MSDS.
- Ability and willingness to work in an environment that involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, and which requires following basic safety precautions.
- Must be able to work hours outside of the regular work schedule or weekends, when required by management/supervision.
- Willing and able to work in the outside elements when necessary
- Must be able to use chemical cleaning solutions
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Must pass a background check.
