Job Description:

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Data Governance Subject Matter Expert to join the team in Seattle, WA or El Segundo, CA

As the Data Governance Subject Matter Expert, you will lead the design, implementation, and operationalization of Boeing’s enterprise data governance program for aviation initiatives, with a strong focus on regulatory and contractual controls including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Global Trade Controls (GTC), and Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs). You will serve as the trusted advisor to program managers, legal teams, export compliance, contracts, security and Information Technology (IT) departments, and business owners—guiding data classification, stewardship, and lifecycle policies to ensure compliance, security, and operational excellence. Join us to shape the foundation of data governance that drives Boeing’s mission-critical aviation programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and operationalize enterprise data governance policies, standards, and processes (data classification, data ownership, metadata, retention, stewardship)

  • Define and socialize data classification taxonomy aligned to aviation programs and export/trade controls (ITAR, EAR, GTC), and produce guidance and templates (labels, metadata)

  • Establish and maintain data stewardship model: identify data owners/stewards, document responsibilities, and create onboarding/offboarding processes

  • Partner with Export Compliance, Legal, Contracts, InfoSec, Procurement, and Program Management to ensure governance meets contractual (CDRL/GTC) and export obligations and supports flow‑down requirements

  • Advise on cross‑border data flows, deemed export risks, and sanctioned/denied‑party exposure; support vendor assessments and contractual language for flow‑downs

  • Lead governance forums (steering committee, data council), create KPIs and compliance metrics, and report program maturity to senior leadership

  • Support policy exception request reviews and documented risk acceptance processes

  • Drive integration of governance with technical controls (DLP, labeling, metadata, IAM, data catalogs) and with change management for adoption

  • Provide training, playbooks, and quick‑reference materials for program teams and suppliers

  • Support audits and regulatory inquiries; produce evidence of compliance (records, attestations, audit trails)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years of experience developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with senior management, customers, stakeholders, peers and partners

  • 10+ years of experience implementing privacy frameworks, privacy principles and compliance requirements (e.g., privacy by design, ISO/NIST, APEC, GAPP, GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, cookie compliance, etc.)

  • 10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related function within aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries

  • 10+ years of experience with integrating export controls, sanctions, or government contract requirements (ITAR/EAR/GTC/CDRL) into data governance

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work or military experience

  • Experience with data catalog, MDM, and metadata tools (Collibra, Alation, Informatica, etc.)

  • Experience with cloud data controls, tenant segregation, and data residency constraints

  • Experience with translating policy into operational controls and tooling requirements

  • Experience with leading cross‑functional governance change in complex programmatic environment
