Flight Operations Officer

Your role

The FOO is a specialist role operating in the Operations Control Centre (OCC) at Dublin.
The OCC is the operational hub of the airline, a safety critical multi department and cross functional environment, focused on operational excellence, regulatory compliance, optimum pre planning and disruption management. The OCC is responsible for the management and delivery of the Aer Lingus schedule through cost effective, efficient, flexible, safe and customer driven processes.

Reporting to the Flight Dispatch and ATS Manager, this role is responsible for the provision of safety critical flight planning, communications, weather monitoring, aircraft tracking and operational pre planning across the wider Aer Lingus network for both Long-haul and Short-haul operations on the Irish and UK AOC operations, and for ad-hoc charter flights and ACMI operations associated with each AOC.
The role is responsible for ensuring that all flight plans are in full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

The FOO team operate on a 24hr shift basis 365 days per year. All FOO’s are trained internally to exacting and high standards and will be a part of a team of specialists in the Flight Planning and Operations Support areas.

 

The Flight Operations Officer should have experience in the following areas:

  • Provision of optimised flight planning and support documentation.
  • Consideration of safety, weather, operating costs, punctuality, slot management and operating constraints impacting flight planning.
  • Assessment of weather and provision of weather briefs.
  • Provide aircraft tracking for all operating aircraft and managing ATC slot requirements on the day of operation to ensure cost effective schedule delivery with minimum delays.
  • Assessment of NOTAMs for safety implications and manage communications to crew.
  • Compilation and dissemination of operational data to crew and other operational departments.
  • Liaising and negotiating with Air Traffic Service Providers, including Central Flow Management Unit (CFMU).
  • Participation in OCC pre-planning activities and response to schedule disruption & updating and maintenance of the Lido flight planning system.
  • Assess Nav Data, Nav charting, Aircraft performance and carry out route studies for ad-hoc charter flights.
  • Assessment of the AIRAC and RAD for optimum flight planning.
  • Understanding of Volcanic Ash and impact on operations.
  • Assist with FOO Training as required & Lido new functionality testing as required.
  • Participation in the management and update of OCC information databases.
  • Emergency Response activities related to the activation of the Corporate Response Plan.
  • Assisting in the development of Flight Planning processes and procedures & performing operations duties and projects as required by Operations Control Management.

Your qualifications and key criteria

  • Proven experience in airline operations with a minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience and a broad base of airline knowledge or have satisfactorily completed a formal training course as a Flight Operations Officer /`Flight Planner.
  • Understanding of Safety Management systems.
  • A sound knowledge and appreciation of the detail and complexity of the regulatory environment governing airline operations.
  • An appreciation of the role of an operations department in achieving overall company objectives.
  • Resilient and capable to work effectively in a fast paced, high pressure, dynamic environment to strict deadlines. 
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the enthusiasm and ability to work on own initiative and influence others while also comfortable to work and contribute in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and displaying a high level of accuracy. 
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the proven ability to present facts and opinions clearly and objectively.
  • Flexible and adaptable with a positive attitude to change.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of systems and procedures.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Eligible to live and work in the EU.
  • Hold a current unrestricted worldwide passport.
  • Able to pass an aviation security vetting process, that includes an enhanced background check* or be in possession of a current airside pass for the airport as this position is based in Dublin.
