Job Summary

Produces and prepares billets, pre-forms, and forgings, and removes flash as required. Operates a variety of machines, equipment, and forge furnaces to manufacture parts to customer specifications and production standards.

Job Responsibilities
  • Produces and prepares billets, pre-forms, forgings, and removes flash as required to meet customer specifications and production standards.
  • Operates abrasive and band saws, belt grinders, abrasive wheel grinders, extrusion and upset presses (horizontal and vertical), forge and trim presses, glass lube units, induction heaters, and forge furnaces (gas and electric), and forklifts.
  • Makes minor adjustments to tooling during production as required.
  • Adds or removes shim as instructed.
  • Obtains die lube from lube storage container.
  • Posts production information as instructed and completes job related paperwork including sign-off of traveler/batch cards.
  • Performs within guidelines established in the Process Work Instructions (PWI) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).  
  • Performs daily housekeeping tasks to provide a safe, clean, and orderly workplace.
  • Reports job irregularities to shift lead person.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED)
  • 6+ months of experience in a GKN Aerospace Facility.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements.

 
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must pay careful attention to all safety requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and record readings from calipers and micrometers.
  • Above average hand and eye coordination.  Demonstrated ability to obtain a forklift operator’s license and drive a forklift safely.

 
Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly stands, walks, and reaches with hands and arms while holding and manipulating tongs/parts.
  • Frequently required to bend, stoop, reach at or above shoulder level, and carry up to 60 pounds independently or up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Regularly exposed to furnace heat, and occasionally exposed to dust and fumes. 
  • Frequent operation of forklift.
