Position Overview:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist’s primary focus is to provide consulting services on a variety of human resources related issues including employee and labour relations, performance management, attendance management, and recruitment & selection, acting as the key HR contact for designated client groups within IMP Aerospace and Defence. 

What You Will Do:
  • Act as lead contact for managers and employees regarding all HR and Corporate policies, procedures, programs and collective agreements in order to ensure effective delivery of human resource services.
  • Engage with Managers and Supervisors on resolving employee/labour relations and performance problems as they arise.
  • Work collaboratively with Union representatives on basic labor relations issues.
  • Maintain confidential, accurate, and up to date employee files and HRIS data.
  • Initiate appropriate recruitment activities in response to approved vacancies, including  liaising with hiring managers to assess requirements, drafting of job postings, recruitment advertising, candidate pre-screenings, candidate contact, interview schedules, final selection process, reference and security checks.
  • Develop and maintain network of contacts to help identify and source qualified candidates.
  • Prepare offer packages and review completed paperwork for accuracy.  Ensure set up of new hires with appropriate tools and accesses.
  • Assist managers with performance management as required, and lead performance improvement plans.
  • Support the HR and Training Department in the delivery of Respectful Workplace training, and other seminars, lunch and learns, etc. 
  • Plan and deliver employee orientation presentations as well as employee engagement programs or events.
  • Assist with the mentorship and development of junior members of the HR team.
  • Work collaboratively with business units and cross functional teams on special projects. 
  • Conduct workplace investigations in response to complaints of harassment, bullying, etc.
  • Manage the formal Attendance Management Program for assigned client groups.
  • Perform other projects and duties as directed.
What You Will Bring:
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in an HR role within a complex Human Resources Department (5+ years preferred)
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management (undergraduate degree or community college diploma with concentration in HR), or equivalent
  • Experience working in a unionized environment, in a Human Resources role, is an asset
  • Working knowledge of human resources principles and practices including the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights and Employment Equity legislation
  • Ability to effectively handle stressful situations and thrive in a fast paced, diverse environment.
  • Familiar with aspects of web-based recruiting and online candidate tracking tools.
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through with projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong working knowledge of all required MS Office software.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies. 
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 6S activities in your area.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian government security clearances.
