Position Summary   

Reporting to the Director, Health & Safety, the Health & Safety (H&S) Coordinator will collaborate with all levels of the organization at the De Havilland Parts and Aerostructures facility to achieve and sustain operational excellence in health and safety.  The successful candidate will act as a change agent to ensure site compliance with the organization’s health and safety program and federal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the maintenance and continuous improvement of the H&S program for De Havilland Parts and Aerostructures.
  • Participates in the development of strategic H&S objective setting for the facility in alignment with the organizations H&S program.
  • In coordination with the Director, H&S, establishes a frequently updated H&S dashboard with key performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assesses organizational risk and communicates De Havilland policies, procedures, rules, safe work procedures and control measures to appropriately address and mitigate facility risks.
  • Oversees facility incident investigations to ensure that a root cause analysis results in the prevention of recurrence of same or similar events, and in program improvement; ensures outcomes from worksite inspections are used in program improvement.
  • Supports internal and external facility audits to ensure compliance with applicable Acts, Regulations, policies, and recognized industry standards.
  • In coordination with the H&S team, supporting the disability management program and oversight of the return to work and modified duty programs at your location.
  • Leads employee and contractor safety orientations.
  • Provides oversight for facility health and safety expenditures.

Skills and Experience

  • Occupational Health & Safety diploma or equivalent certificates.
  • Related Professional Certification is an asset (e.g., CRSP, CSP, ROH, CIH etc.).
  • 2+ years of Health & Safety experience. 
  • Experience completing internal audits (AASP, MHSA etc.)
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (presentation creation, report writing, data manipulation and documentation formatting).
  • Experience in the aviation sector or manufacturing/industrial environment is considered a significant asset.
  • Experience with the preparation, implementation and monitoring of Emergency Response Plans.
  • Strong knowledge of Federal Health & Safety regulations and Union operations is an asset.
  • Experience conducting formal investigations and working with operations to ensure risk mitigation, incident closure and follow up (Taproot Training Preferred).
  • Proven ability to assist with the rollout of internal training programs.
  • Working knowledge of the WCB claim management processes.
