Job Overview

We are seeking a student intern to support our Communications organization in our Los Angeles, CA, West Palm Beach, FL or Arlington, VA site.

Internships at AR provide both an opportunity and challenge for students to enhance their professional skills to include: government/civics, public policy advocacy and outreach, critical thinking abilities, and communication skills. A successful student-candidate will be a self-starter with a strong interest public policy, government, and aerospace and defense.

The role is expected to begin in May/June and last approximately 10-12 weeks.

Essential Functions

- Write external communication stories about program milestones in the Space Propulsion & Power Systems segment

- Assist in the production of written and visual communications collateral

- Provide support in the planning and execution of communications-led outreach programs

Requirements

Candidate must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing (or related major) and be returning to school upon completion of the assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Solid academic track record of accomplishment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Software applications
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with little direction
  • Leadership & teamwork skills
  • An interest in issues related to public policy affecting the aerospace and defense sectors
  • Interest/experience in the Legislative and Executive branches of government
  • Experience creating and maintaining databases
  • Strong organizational skills

Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
