Intern, Operations Research

Description

Under the guidance of the Director, Algorithms, the Operations Research Analyst will be helping to maximize business value by designing and developing mathematical and statistical algorithms and products to solve highly valuable and complex problems. This position will work closely with business stakeholders across the airline and will be gaining deep expertise within the supported domains.

Responsibilities

1) Algorithms

• Develop and maintain algorithms and products to support departments across the company.
• Leverage heuristics, operations research, simulations, and machine learning to predict outcomes and prescribe optimal responses.
• Implement solutions and track their effectiveness.
• Identify business opportunities and ensure stakeholder satisfaction.

2) Analysis

• Translate business problems into analytical projects.
• Apply data and statistics modeling to gain actionable business insights.

Competencies

Functional Competencies

• Proficiency in programming languages like Python, VBA, C, Matlab, etc.
• Understanding of mathematical and statistical modeling.
• Some proficiency in SQL preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Analytical aptitude and action oriented; enjoys strategic thinking while also being tactical.

Basic Requirements

• Frequently stand, walk, sit, and use hand/eye coordination.
• Conduct in-person, video, and audio meetings as necessary.

Education/Experience Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s/Bachelor’s degree program in Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or related field.
