Position Summary

Responsible for the chemical analysis of incoming, in-process and finished good samples. Technicians verify analysis data into Laboratory Information System (LIMS) - including release of materials and/or products. Calibration and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work safely. Adhere to all company and regulatory EH&S policies and procedures. Look for safety issues and notify leadership of all safety concerns.
  • Adheres to all Company 6-S initiatives and policies.
  • Performs chemical analysis using established procedures and operates analytical instruments and apparatus for the chemical evaluation of samples from the C-M melt shop, customers, raw material vendors, and non-routine samples as assigned.
  • Records, reports, and maintains records of these functions.
  • Available for overtime without prior notice.
  • Responsible for the daily maintenance, standardization and adjustment of the analytical equipment to ensure proper operation and maintain accuracy. Reports malfunctions to the Laboratory Manager.
  • Responsible for the collection and preparation of samples, analytical testing, recording, reporting, and maintaining records of results, and notifying appropriate personnel of results.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of control specifications of materials analyzed, maintaining adequate analytical standards library, and preparation and maintenance of calibration curves.
  • Maintains an adequate reserve of supplies to perform job functions. Advises Laboratory Manager of requirements.
  • Assists other technicians or assumes duties of absent Laboratory Technician(s) as necessary or as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
  • Assists the Laboratory Manager in the instruction of new Lab Technicians as to their laboratory duties and analytical procedures associated with their positions.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of work area, associated laboratory area, and equipment.
  • Performs additional routine or experimental work as required or assigned by the Laboratory Manger.
  • Assists or assumes the duties of any and all Laboratory personnel as required regardless of shift.
  • Weekend coverage per established schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Two-year degree in Applied Science with an emphasis in chemistry and/or two (2) years’ experience of laboratory experience required.

LECO and/or XRF analysis of steel, specialty steel and/or superalloy materials preferred.

  • Basic math aptitude.

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate technical information.
  • Knowledge of the Periodic Table of Elements.
  • Precise, detail oriented, analytical ability.
