BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair is hiring Marine Electricians 1st Class to support the Norfolk Ship Repair Facility.

Must be able to carry a First Class Ship board Marine Electrician. Must have a working knowledge of Shipboard Electrical Systems, installations, troubleshooting procedures and repair. Must be able to read and interpret work specifications, technical drawings, military specifications and Navsea Standard Items in order to perform electrical repairs, installations and cable terminations. Must be able to work individually as well as in a team setting.

General Requirements:

Must be able to carry a tool bag weight 20-30 pounds
Able to enter and exit a standard horizontal and vertical manhole (15 inches x 23 inches)
Able to work in confined spaced for prolonged periods of time
Must be able to climb vertical or inclined ladders
Must be able to stand, sit, push/pull and stoop
Must be able to work in a kneeling position, crawling or work with body bent over at the waist
Must be able to work with arms extended at shoulder level and above tool bag weight 20-30 pounds

Job Requirements:
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
High school Diploma/GED
Minimum Experience 5 to 7 years in trade.

A First Class Electrician must be able to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and or equipment.

Maintains and sustains a safe working environment by following, practicing and encouraging others to observe all safety precautions required while working in a heavy industrial environment.

Ensures safe working environment by following correct lock-out, danger, red tag procedures and WAF requirements.

Determines relevant drawings required for a job by reviewing job packet, locating relevant drawings and then cross-referencing with resources such as Navy Standards Items, ISO 9000 procedures, IEEE and Chapter 300 EPISM.

Lays out jobs by identifying installation equipment requirements, e.g., hangers, boxes, conduit, wire ways, etc., tools and control equipment, e.g., push-buttons, switches, controller and power distribution panels, etc.

Conducts rip-out of systems using hand and power tools, e.g., cable cutters, saws-all, grinders, by following schematics or work order instructions.

Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, controllers, and circuit breaker panels, fastening in place using hand and power tools.

Determines cable paths to equipment aboard ships using blueprints (cable routing plans), job orders, and other sources of information.

Installs electrical and electronic circuits by following cabling/wiring electrical schematics and pulling cable through designated conduits, cableways, MCTs, MCPs etc., properly securing cables (banding) and packing swage tubes, MCTs, MCPs etc.

Marks all circuitry work by ensuring cabling is correctly identified and tagged appropriately with metal tag carrying circuit number/identification.

Installs electrical equipment by connecting power and control cables between various types of equipment, e.g., power panels,

Experience Preferred 7 to 10 years in trade.

Pay Information
This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will determine your wages.
