Job Description

The Patient Account Representative will serve as part of the Patient Financial Services department and be responsible for handling of patient accounts to resolution. The Patient Account Representative will ensure that accurate, ethical, and compliant billing practices are maintained and comply with Survival Flights written code of conduct as well as billing practices, policies, procedures, state laws and all Federal Health Care program requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Air Ambulance industry and billing requirements
  • At least 5 years of medical billing experience or bachelors degree
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, AHCCCS, Managed Care, Private Insurance, and Auto Insurance process and requirements
  • Knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 diagnosis coding
  • Proven problem-solving skills and communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette skills
  • Ability to operate office machines including but not limited to: computer, copy machine, ten key, etc.
  • Knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Ability to navigate specific billing software to effectively handle accounts

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Certification from a professional organization (AAHAM, HFMA, AAPC, etc.)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Daily mailing of paper claims and invoices
  • Responsible for a workload of 350 - 450 accounts
  • Ensure that files are properly and completely documented with insurance information and appropriate charges are entered for each transport
  • Appropriate entry of all transport information into the billing system
  • First level Medicare appeals
  • Thorough investigation of all motor vehicle accidents and researching of all payer sources
  • Prepare accounts for adjustments or collections
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs, Tricare, Auto Insurance, Commercial Insurance, Indian Health Services and all other insurances
