Role:

As a Principal Data Scientist specialising in Operational Research at British Airways, you will lead the development and implementation of optimisation products to optimise operational processes and enhance decision-making. Your contributions will be critical to ensuring that these optimisation products are fit-for-purpose, driving process changes and efficiencies at British Airways.

Scope:

  • Lead data science stream in the development of optimisation products that address critical operational challenges, enhancing decision quality and efficacy.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to scope, develop, and enhance digital tools for operational optimisation, aligning with strategic objectives.
  • Implement predictive (ML, AI) and prescriptive algorithms at scale, integrating them seamlessly into operational systems to improve efficiency.
  • Manage the teams portfolio and priorities within an agile framework, focusing on delivering operational value within defined timelines.
  • Adhere to best practices in technology architecture and development processes, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of operational tools.
  • Communicate technical concepts and insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, influencing decision-makers and fostering understanding.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships at all levels, leveraging operational research to deliver business value.
  • Stay abreast of major developments in operational research, supporting a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the creation of quantitative optimisation models and products to address operational challenges and drive efficiencies.
  • Collaborate to enhance operational tools, supporting BAs operational optimisation objectives.
  • Maintain data integrity within operational products and develop a deep understanding of operational processes.
  • Manage the teams portfolio and priorities, delivering high-quality operational solutions in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with operational stakeholders at all levels.
  • Maintain strong relationships with operational users and stakeholders.
  • Stay current with developments in operational research and support a culture of continuous improvement.

Skills/Capabilities:

  • Several years of experience applying operations research techniques to solve business problems
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex operational concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Effective stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to manage software development projects from inception to completion.
  • Fluency in Python and other programming languages to builkd production products.
