Let your career take flight by joining our diverse and vibrant team at the leading edge of passenger aviation.Reporting to the Director, Fleet and Network Strategy, the Principal, Network & Fleet Strategy is responsible for leading a team that defines and develops a long-term network and fleet strategy to achieve corporate objectives of profitability, growth, climate sustainability and spanet position.
The Principal, Network & Fleet Strategy will lead a team and work with many departments within Air Canada to evaluate highly complex, multi-billion-dollar long-term fleet and network decisions. The Principal, Network & Fleet Strategy will be responsible for presenting their findings to Senior Management.Responsibilities:
Oversee the development of a long-range network strategy to ensure the most competitive and profitable network for Air Canada and its subsidiaries.Produce a roadmap that clearly articulates a long-range fleet plan that meets growth and profitability objectives while collaborating with Finance to ensure Investor Day targets are maintained. Lead complex fleet evaluations while collaborating both with external parties and internal departments to ensure Air Canada maintains a competitive and sustainable fleet going forward.Incorporate into network and fleet evaluations complex financial metrics including measurements on Air Canada’s climate sustainability standards in line with ESG targets.Examine and coach a team to evaluate long term network and fleet for new opportunities for revenue generation or cost reduction.Collaborate with the Product team and review analysis for optimum seat configuration for existing and incoming fleet to maximize profitability while ensuring competitiveness of Air Canada’s product.Lead and mentor a team responsible for identifying and evaluating new spanet/route opportunities for expansion and growth.Evaluate the analysis of our competitors’ fleet plan, capacity, network and schedules and implement appropriate strategic and tactical responses to spanet opportunities and threats.Work closely with all stakeholders (e.g. other planning groups, Aircraft Programs, Labour Relations, Alliances, Flight Ops, SOC and Maintenance to ensure clear communication of goals, alignment of strategy and effort, and sharing of spanet knowledge).Collaborate closely with Labour Relations and interpret various collective agreements with respect to aircraft ratios and fleet restrictions. Develop models that forecast the parameters contained within the collective agreements to evaluate multiple fleet scenarios.Act as an enabler and facilitator to resolve roadblocks encountered by team members.
QualificationsUniversity degree required; degree in Commerce, Operations Research, Aviation Management, Economics or Statistics preferred7 to 10 years or more experience in similar role or in comparable network planning or scheduling roleKnowledge of one or more of planning and scheduling toolsExperience in producing route evaluations taking into account average passenger volumes and average cost of operating the routeSuperior analytical skills and high degree of comfort with complex dataStrong leadership, people management and coaching/mentoring skills. Able to assist staff with acquiring network planning and data analytical skillsExperience in collaborating across branches including operations, performance engineering and revenue managementStrong knowledge of the Air Canada Fleet and capabilities in terms of aircraft performanceAbility to think outside the box and convert ideas into concrete plans for actionA solid understanding of network planning concepts and methodologiesAbility to communicate ideas effectivelyStrong team spirit
