Job Title: Production Technician
Job Description
This intermediate-level Production Technician role focuses on hands-on electro-mechanical assembly in a high-precision manufacturing environment that supports drone production. You will assemble and test avionics components, work with PCB assemblies and cable harnesses, and follow strict manufacturing processes and safety standards. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with Manufacturing and Quality teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex electro-mechanical assembly tasks independently using schematics, drawings, and verbal or written instructions.
- Assemble and test avionics components, including PCB assemblies, cable harnesses, integrated modules, and related electronic assemblies.
- Apply precision adhesives and bonding techniques, including epoxies and other bonding materials, to ensure high-quality assemblies.
- Follow detailed Manufacturing Process Instructions and strict safety procedures when building assemblies and operating tools and equipment.
- Provide real-time design and assembly feedback to Manufacturing and Quality teams to help improve processes and resolve issues.
- Escalate and resolve build issues through proper channels, documenting problems and collaborating with relevant stakeholders.
- Use hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, torque drivers, drills, and measurement tools (including calipers) to perform assembly tasks.
- Perform mechanical PCBA assembly and support controlled fastening operations to meet torque and quality specifications.
- Route cables and harnesses accurately and neatly according to diagrams, blueprints, and standard operating procedures.
- Read and interpret diagrams, blueprints, basic SOPs, and non-technical instructions and follow directions accurately.
- Record and update production and assembly data accurately using basic computer systems and software.
- Work under aggressive deadlines and flexibly shift priorities across multiple projects as production needs change.
- Support fabrication or assembly of sheet metal and tube assemblies as required for vehicle and structural components.
- Assist with moving large objects, including components weighing 400+ pounds, using forklifts or rigging equipment where qualified.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail and quality, ensuring all assemblies meet manufacturing standards and inspection requirements.
Essential Skills
- 2–3 years of experience in an electro-mechanical, production, or manufacturing assembly environment at an intermediate level.
- Hands-on electro-mechanical assembly experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Mechanical PCBA assembly experience, including working with PCB assemblies and electronic modules.
- Assembly experience using hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, torque drivers, drills, and calipers or other measurement tools.
- Experience assembling avionics components such as PCB assemblies, cable harnesses, and related electronic hardware.
- Cable and wire routing experience, including harness routing and organization.
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams, blueprints, basic SOPs, and non-technical instructions and follow directions accurately.
- Experience following manufacturing protocols and detailed process instructions in a structured production environment.
- Basic computer skills, including use of MacOS or Microsoft-based systems for data entry and documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and proactive approach to resolving assembly and production issues.
- High attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset in all assembly and testing activities.
- Experience with forklift or rigging operations for moving heavy objects (approximately 400+ pounds), where applicable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with bonding composites, including carbon fiber and epoxies, is a strong plus.
- Basic soldering skills are a nice-to-have and beneficial for certain assemblies.
- Fabrication or assembly experience with sheet metal and tube assemblies is preferred.
- Experience in avionic or electronic assembly environments is an advantage.
- Familiarity with controlled fastening processes and torque tools is beneficial.
- Background in attention to detail and quality control or inspection is advantageous.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.00 - $33.00/hr.
