Legal Counsel:

The Legal function at CAE is a strategic partner to the business and plays a critical role in providing sound and practical legal advice to management and stakeholders across the organization. We are looking for a motivated and capable Regional Legal Counsel to join the Legal team and support our Civil Aviation business in the region. Reporting directly to the Director Legal, Civil - APAC, you will advise the Civil Aviation business on a wide range of legal, compliance and contractual matters, and play an important role in helping to establish and embed the processes and practices of the Legal department.

The role we are offering you:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements with customers and suppliers of CAE (incl. CAE joint venture entities) across Asia Pacific, including China.
  • Providing legal advice to various functions within the business, including HR, Finance, Sales & Marketing, on a variety of legal, compliance and contractual topics/issues, including employment & labour, anti-corruption, competition law, intellectual property, real estate, corporate governance, etc. This includes conducting legal research on relevant laws, understanding risks arising and devising mitigation strategies to help the business manage accordingly.
  • Supporting the Director Legal, Civil - APAC on M&A and other corporate transactions/projects in the region.
  • Administratively managing Board meetings and related documentation, handling, reviewing and liaising with external company secretary on corporate documents.
  • Monitoring legal developments in the region and proactively advising the business on compliance measures tailored to suit the operation and needs of the relevant functions.
  • Engaging and managing outside counsel where specialised advice or support on more complex legal matters are required, including litigation.
  • Implementing global/regional legal & compliance trainings and other initiatives for the business across the Asia Pacific region.
  • Collaborating with and contributing towards various projects of the global Legal team.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A law degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing in at least one common law jurisdiction.
  • At least 5-8 years of post-qualified experience in an established law firm or as in-house counsel in an international organization.
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Chinese (spoken and/or written) is a plus.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills along with a high level of commercial awareness.
  • A team player, creative thinker, solution-orientated individual, curious about the business and who enjoys working in an inclusive and diverse environment.
  • High degree of independence, initiative and decisiveness coupled with enthusiasm and drive for delivering results.
  • Agile and open to supporting the business beyond set work schedules on a need basis.
