Remote Work:

This position is eligible for hybrid remote work, within Calgary, under our mobile workforce program. 

Overview of role: WestJet is seeking a Scrum Master working with digital product teams within the Digital Business Unit. This individual exhibits a high standard of excellence, enjoys challenges, and is results- driven. The incumbent must be highly motivated and demonstrate experience/ expertise at a senior level as an agile coach.

You will have the opportunity to shape the Scrum Master role, adapting it to team dynamics and the unique issues facing each team, driving team collaboration and engagement towards the need to satisfy the customer through the delivery of valuable software. Agile principles and values are your foundation, particular methodologies are not mandated. Our Scrum Master will develop self- organizing, autonomous teams to focus on delivering value through continuous improvement. In addition to supporting teams in solving complex software challenges, the Scrum Master will mentor and coach software development teams that deliver business value daily. You will be accountable for keeping the team focused on delivery, remain point of contact for business stakeholders and most importantly coach and serve as a servant leader for the agile development team. You will be working on products that will impact many thousands of customers.

Additionally, you will contribute to the operation of the WestJet Agile Center of Excellence (CoE). This involves establishing guiding practices, delivering training programs, and fostering a collaborative Agile community. You will act as a coach and mentor within the Agile community and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, ensuring alignment with Agile principles and organizational objectives.

Key deliverables include:

  • Guide, coach, motivate and act as a servant leader for the team with the goal of increasing productivity, engagement and moraleMentor and coach software development teams to deliver business value daily
  • Organize and facilitate Scrum/ Agile ceremonies, workshops, and training sessionsOversee and manage scope, timeline, quality, and deliverables that align with business goals
  • Build relationships and collaborate with main stakeholders
  • Identify and report on relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) Prepare and present reports on the progress and success of the team
  • Collaborate with other Scrum Masters on building techniques, ideas, methods and tools.
  • Identify and address any obstacles that occur and drive continuous improvement and growth mindset into the delivery teams
  • Act as subject matter experts within the Agile Center of Excellence, supporting best practices for digital product teams.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to create a consistent understanding of Agile principles across the organization
  • Implement governance structures and frameworks to align Agile principles and organizational objectives.
  • Foster a collaborative community within the Agile CoE through events and forums, celebrating successes and encouraging cross-functional problem-solving.
  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration and knowledge-sharing through the Agile Community of Practice by facilitating discussions, contributing to problem-solving, and sharing relevant information
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and standardize Agile artifacts and processes for transparency and consistency.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and teams, providing guidance on strategic initiatives aligned with Agile principles.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business, or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years previous experience working within or leading software development teams Leader of leaders of business and software professionals
  • High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience analyzing data, trends and comparing standards is considered an asset
  • A dedication to providing exceptional service, every day
  • The ability to adapt to change in a positive way and deliver successful results A team-oriented, collaborative and empathetic approach to meeting goals and objectives
  • Proven organizational and multi-tasking skills with an ability to meet deadlines with ownership and accountability
  • Professional presence and a demonstrated ability to work with all levels within an organization
