Boeing Commercial Airlines has an exciting opportunity for a Super Plastic Forming Technician - Special to join our team supporting Hourly Manufacturing in Auburn, WA.

Employees in this position set up and operate CNC and conventional hot forming presses, high pressure gas systems, high temperature systems, hydraulic systems and ovens, to form, size, anneal, or mill anneal metal alloys to make production and experimental parts.

Position Responsibilities

  • Obtain work order (W/O) to determine what process production parts or raw material are to be worked from the utilization board, as required. Read W/O and drawings to determine work to be accomplished.

  • Order any special details and/or standards that is required by the W/O or engineering drawing.

  • Obtain appropriate drawings, Boeing (BAC) specification, documents and/or sketches, using computing systems (e.g., Bold/Web, BOLD LITE), as required.

  • Ensure that correct material (e.g., type, size, quantity) and tools or fixtures were called out/issued and are free from visible defects.

  • Consult with supervision and other sources (e.g., planning, Manufacturing Research and Development MR&D and inspection), to resolve problems, as required. Coordinate with MR&D in the fabrication of various types and sizes of production parts, as required.

  • Clean parts, equipment and tools/dies using chemicals/solvents, (e.g., denatured alcohol, methylpropylketone), as required.

  • Clean and adjust spray equipment to ensure that equipment is functioning properly, as required.

  • Set up and spray Ever Lube to parts, apply powder form Born Nitrate to dies, to ensure proper coating, as required.

  • Move parts to and from ovens, using material handling equipment (e.g,. overhead crane, electric stacker), as required.

  • Operate and program control panel to adjust oven to proper temperature per specification, then load dies into oven after correct temperature has been reached, as required.

  • Perform/ monitor ovens periodically to ensure ovens are functioning properly, as required.

  • When proper temperature has been reached, wearing Personal Protective Equipment, open oven door and put part in between the forming dies or flatten plates, to form the part, as required.

  • Remove forming dies or flatten plates out oven using material handling equipment (e.g,. overhead crane, electric stacker), as required.

  • Submit completed job or in-process checks, to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence for acceptance or rejection, as required.

  • Use hand-held power tools (e.g,. rotary files, abrasive wheels, plasma cutter, and sanding discs to fair contours, finish edges, chamfers), as required.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous material in an approved manner, as required.

  • Communicate and work with internal/external organizations (e.g., planning, engineering, inspection, supervision) and other shifts to accomplish work and to solve problems.

  • Eye, hearing and foot protection, gloves and other personal equipment, as required.

  • Requires bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Frequent standing, reaching, handling, turning/twisting, and lifting/lowering.

  • Requires frequent lifting, pushing, pulling and supporting 10 - 35 lbs.

  • Exposure to sharp materials and edges.

  • Exposure to excessive heat and loud noises.

  • Wear a respirator when required.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience)

  • 1+ years of experience working with detailed work instructions or reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings

  • 1+ years of experience using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers and dial indicators, etc.

  • 1+ years of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools.

  • Ability to lift 35 pounds

  • Able to work with and around high temperatures, (while using the proper protective equipment)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience operating hot forming presses

  • 1+ years of experience operating forklifts

  • 1+ years of experience operating radio-controlled cranes

Typical Education & Experience

High school graduate or GED preferred.

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary Pay Range: $23.00 - $47.56 an hour
